Got a new holster for my 44 Colt Army Open Top!

Howdy,

In the GAF I am an Engineer officer and have put together an 1872 Fatigue uniform. I got the Open Top for this persona.

This afternoon the postman brought my holster!

I had David Carrico make an 1871 modification style holster similar to the holster on page 23 of Packing Iron. It has the tube for the cleaning rod [being made by my blacksmith] attached to an ACW RH Butt Forward holster. These were made before the introduction of the Hoffman swivel belt loop was adopted in 1872. The Hoffman swivel allowed the holster to rotate a full 360 degrees which caused lots of problems!

This holster, along with my 1860 Henry are both being shot with 44 Russian.

I am extremely happy with the quality of the holster! I can recommend Carrico Leather without reservation!!

The Open Top shoots to POI at CAS distances and any misses are operator error!

Saddly Dr. Bob is technologically challenged. I have the digital camera and the 'puter, but can't find the cord to hook the two together.

I will take some pics when I get the cleaning rod and figure out how to put them here.

Dr. Bob,

Check to see if your camera has a removeable memory "card" or "stick".
If so, check your computer and/or monitor for a slot for the card / stick.
If you have these features, its much easier/faster than the USB cable.

Dr. Bob, I leave my cord plugged in to my PC and leave one end (obviously) laying on the desk so I can plug it in when I want to upload from my digital cam. Makes things far easier.

Maybe the nurse at the group home can help you.

OBTW, I think that thing is a cleaning rod, rather than a ramrod

Last time I visted the "flexible materials shop" at RIA was searching through the drawers looking for a straight knife and found a number of "goodies" for making official leather holsters including the the brass & copper hardware and a "US" stamp for a press that doesn't exist anymore. We just left these items in the shop rather than turn them over to the museum....just in case they would be needed for future production. Still there I assume.

The pictures of the nurse with riding crop are forthcoming I trust?

Dave does great work.

i had someone else make my Naval frog type holsters but I wear them on a standard officer belt that Dave made along with a bullet puch and a dyer pouch.

I then also wear two mckeever pouches that I converted to 12 guage (seem rippers do ammazing work) on another officer belt or I use a Carrico made Mills rifle and shotgun belt with two plain black shotgun slides for easy use.

I have posted pics of the set-up before but will put new pics out if people are inteterested.
