I had been planning to order one of the Duncan aluminum cast guns for the 1911 but decided to try something different.  I called the folks at Blue Guns to get several of their 1911 plastic magazines and was informed that over fifty of their regular customers were holster makers using the plastic guns for plying their craft.  Thinking that this might indicate that these plastic mock ups just might be tuff enuff to stand up to the rigors of my shop, I ordered one.  My fear is that the plastic may not be rigid enough, especially in the trigger guard area.  I hope that I will be able to give a positive report when I have had a chance to test it out.  I was also told to always let them know when guns were being purchased for holster making so they could leave the paint off!!!!  Seems some holsters got ruined by the paint rubbing off in them.

Slowhand,

I currently use 12 different blueguns for molding.  Don't worry about them breaking..they are not hollow like toy guns...they are molded solid and have the correct outside dimensions.  You could probably put them into a press and it wouldn't bother them.  If you have looked at some of my photos on "Show us your stuff"  you willl see some of the blueguns.

Found them, however it doesn't look like they carry reproductions of saa's or remi's etc.  It sure looks like a great product for a holster maker.

For SAA's and many others cast in aluminum try Duncans

Another option for SAA's, Remingtons, and Cap'n Ball revolvers the "fake" non-firing replicas are a good option.......

Chuck is right, you will have to work within several sources but the best of all is to try and get a pair of the real things in every style and barl length sold.  When the wife asks "why two?", just look her in the eye, stand tall and say that is the nature of our game.  Never let a woman brow beat you, they buy everything in pars for themselve; gloves, stockings, shoes, glasses and even pants!  Men must learn to stand,,,  uhhh, Ill finish tomorrow I was just told I have to go to bed.

Blueguns.com is the link.

They do make SAA's one in 5.5 and one with 7.5 barrel....they were copied off a Uberti SAA.  However they do not make any other 1800's type revolvers...these blueguns were originally developed as police practice guns.  I would assume if they get enough interest in the early revolvers they might be tempted to offer them as well...but I would think  the market would be too small to warrant the expense of mold development.
