I have a new Uberti Catleman. I just added a Wolf Spring kit, and smoothed up some of the other parts in the action. ( polished edges slightly and debured where needed. ) While I had it apart I noticed the cylinder paw ( or arm ) did not have the flat spring like the earlier Uberti repros did, but instead it is set up like a Ruger Vaquaro with a coil spring and plunger. I know that on the Rugers the paw can be modified to allow it to free spin at half cock, and they make kits for this as well. I have not been able to find a kit for the Uberi though. Do they Make them? Does anyone know if the Ruger mod can be done to the Uberi with the same effect?

No kits as you can't have a free spin pawl on the Colt three screw lock work.  Can't have a free spin pawl on the old three screw Rugers either.  Serves no purpose on a Colt since when the gun is put on half-cock the chambers line up with the loading gate and the empties are easy to eject.  The reason they came up with the free spin is because the two screw (actually pins) Rugers have no half cock and it is sometimes difficult to line up the chambers to eject the brass.

Well that explains it! I didn't know the rugers were that differant. I have to admit I was hoping there was some way to do it to my Uberti. I think that is so neat. I didn't want that mod done for anything else other than the coolness of it!  ;D Can the mod be done to the two screw frame 1875 Remington repros? I do have one of those on my wish list.

Howdy Pards,
It is funny, but I came to ask you guys about that hand spring?? I took the matt black finish as long as I can, so I took apart my Cattleman and noticed the coil spring, instead of a regural hand spring. I noticed the little screw above the brack strap screw hole, do I take that screw out, is that the hole to put the spring back in? If so, when I take that screw out will there be a plunger come out with it?
Sorry to ask this dumb question, but I have only worked on the old style.
I would be very great full, for the help?
Thanks

Ace    You are correct, coil spring and plunger, ala Ruger. The thing I have noticed is the plunger is not quite as blunt or as polished as say a Ruger plunger, not hard to do.          Adios   Sgt.Jake
