I've been a fan of single shot rifles forever. I don't know a great deal about Hi-Walls,,but one never knows....I find them quite attractive.

Do you gents have pictures of your Hi-Walls ? I'd appreciate taking a look,,,for inspiration !

Thank you

I love 'em. The balance is great, the action is easy and fluid.  My Win. LTD. (Miroku) 1885 is .38-55 and she'll drive tacks.

Lunarian, n.  An inhabitant of the moon, as distinguished from Lunatic, one whom the moon inhabits. (Ambrose Bierce).  Which one are you?

Don't have a High-Wall yet, got a Low-Wall, a little out of this period, but it was built in the late 1940's and will stay that way, because of what it is.  Build by a smith from about 75 miles NW of me at Central-City.  Action built in 1900 so it's the flat main spring type as I prefer.

Springfield Armoury 22 target barrel as sold by the NRA, chambered for 22 Hornet, rail mount, Pre-War style Weaver 1" rings and an old El Paso made Weaver K-12.  Will do a hair over 1 moa and a good 200 yard rifle for chucks and prairie dogs.

Way WAY out of my league in affordability, but ranking up at the top of the 1885 chain, are the rifles

Here's mine.  It's a Browning High Wall in 40-65.  I bought it in 2001 just after Browning discontinued production and prices dropped for dealers to clean them out.  I paid $995 for the entire rig (including sights)- what a steal!  And it, too, is a tack driver.

Guys, thanks. My fav guns are single shots. Learned to hunt with a Stevens single shot .22. And, a single barrel break-open Iver Johnston 20guage. Not the 'same' thing,,but kinda the same 'technology level'.....Have owned a heap of guns since,,but, nothing ever took be back like single shot rifles.

Hi-Walls are very , very kewl. Never knew anyone that had one,,that didn't like it.

A Low-Wall in .22 would,,to me,,,would be a wonderful rifle to hunt squirrels with yet.

They may not be quite as nostalgic as the Sharps, but I think they are the pinnacle of BPCR design.  But then again, they are a John Browning design - what else would you expect? ::)

As for a squirrel rifle, I've been working on cast loads for that Hornet, I've got a 50 gr Lyn\man FNGC doing pretty good at about 2000 fps and that 12 power is exallant for the longer shots. ;)  Best of both worlds in one rifle.

John B. , I have a '73win (uberti) with wood that good,,but the PolyPlant oil finish is killin' my eyes. I plan to redo the wood finish this week,,,and might 'lightly' age the metal some too. I am not critizing your rifle,,it's gorgeous and I'd love to have one,,but that poly finish is harsh,,

Marshal, I hear you loud and clear about Italian finishes.  But it's like this; I refinished some many of mine - I'm plain tired of doing them.  So, these Uberti HiWalls (the 45-70 and 38-55) ... I'm just shooting them.

Nice Lo-Wall. AInt there jest something about single shot rifles ? Guess in a way they take me back to my first two guns,,a single shot .22,,that only shot 'longs',,and a single shot break-down Iver Johnston shotgun. Used them regualry till I earned enough on the farm to buy me a '94 and a basic 870wingmaster 20ga.  I think I'd been going downhill all my life (with the AR.s and hi tech super optic craps I bought)  till I got into this 'CAS' kinda thing.

Better technology does not always make Jack a happy boy. Basics work better for me personally.

Thanks for the pics folks.

Know whut ya mean, Marshall!

When I found CAS, I sold all my modern "crap" to buy all the neat "old" stuff I could afford.  And I'm still buyin' - just don't have any more "modern" stuff to sell off!

Then it just didn't seem right shooting heathen smokeyless powder in "old" guns, so I changed to Holy Black.  Now all is right with the world - or, at least, this small little piece of it!  ;D
