Finished this this week.  Didn't turn out too bad if I do say so myself.
Didn't cost much either.  Used felt from a pool table shop.  Old pallet wood for the insides and top.
Piece of deer skin to keep the lid from flopping.  Bought the old ammo box at a flea market for about $12.
Brass pieces cost me less than $6.
What do you all think?

The felt was a little tricky.  Made paterns out of paper for the biggest pieces.  Pretty easy to adjust + or - with the paper first.
When I had the felt the way I wanted it, brass tacked one side down, then worked around to the other side.
Elmers glue worked well on the smaller stuff.  Glued it up, put a heavy weight on it, and when dry, wrapped it around and glued the other side.

First time I ever tried such a thing...learned as I went! ::)

Well you did a fine job sir.That is real nice.Where ya located,i got a box you can do up. ;D I did the same as you on a smaller scale.The brass knob is from and old umbrella handle from the 1800s,i stuck a wood dowel in it then drilled a hole for a jag for the cleaner brush,Found the box at an antique store and used some foam and wood burner kit to cut the shape out.Came out ok but not as good as yours.

Will, that is damn nice.  Room for two, I like it.  Another project to think about.  I have one traveling case.  I believe this is an older reproduction from the fifties.
