I have one as well, but it's not been as helpful for me as I would have liked. If I had WC's skill, maybe so. I've been using a very small screw driver, like would be used for glasses repair, to punch holes for spots. I'm still practicing, I haven't put any spots on yet, but I'm getting close!

I have one too, and use it for my larger spots, for the smaller spots I use the Spot Setters from www.standardrivetco.com., they do a much better job for me with the smaller spots, and they're easy to handle, IMHO they aren't cheap, and if you don't plan on doing a lot of setting, they might not be worth it for you to get them, but for me the way my hand is they are wroth every penny. Chuck Burrows told us of this tool, and I think more are using it beside myself. What is nice about this tool, is that it holds the spots while you tap them in, it takes a little getting use to but I find I have very few bent over tines, the more I use it.

Thanks for all your help. I looked at the spot setter Tandy has, looked promising, but expensive, and liked the adjustability of the one I posted the pic of, again pricy, I like the screwdriver idea JD. Think i'LL try that.

Regarding the screwdrivers, someone on the Forum gave me the idea. I bought a set of 6 or 7 of them at Ace Hardware for 5 bucks. Good luck.

I made a tool for punching the holes in the leather. In thicker leather it just goes part way through and I finish them off with an awl. Never seen teh tool shown in the first post, don't know how it would work.

That looks good Slim. What did you start with, and did you use hand tools to do most or all of the shaping?
