Signs are starting to show that I'll be getting into reloading for my black powder cartridges, and am thinking of going 44.40 for a new rifle.

But the question is, are boolits boolits?  Or do I need special ones for BP due to lubing?  ???

The Mav Dutchman 200 gr. .44 is the way to go.  The RCBS .44, 200 gr. Cowboy bullet is a close second.  I've used both and still buy the MD Big Lube Boolit.  The RCBS Mold is on stand-by if I ever run out of MD's from Sprinfield Slim.
Listen!  Do you hear that?  The roar of Cannons and the screams of the dying.  Ahh!  Music to my ears.

Wills Point Pete

While most of the shots in my area are well within black powder ranges for my .45 Colt rifle there are just enough cross pasture and up the power line cut shots that I still use smokeless loads for hunting. Naturally if I were willing to pass up those longer shots a soft lead slug at BP velocities would still work fine. The reality is that the onl thing that has changed in hunting is the range we could take a critter. Well, that and the safety angle. We are no longer forced to be messing about with loose powder and a patched ball while an angry grizzly bear is chewing off a leg. That's something, anyway.
