Been shooting for a while and now I'm ready to try some of the side matches.

Derringer 22 caliber and above excluding 22 magnum.

Pocket pistol 4" barrel or less, no swing out cylinders.

What should I look for in a 22 rifle?  I'd prefer lever action.

Depends on the side matches that you want to shoot.  There are LR Rifle side matches, derringer and pocket pistol side matches, and much more rare .22 side matches.  There can also be wild bunch side matches and other sides that are up to the creativity of the match organizers.

What you need will depend on what sides you want to shoot.

Henry .22LR's are good guns. I have a '60's Marlin 39A straight grip.
