Howdy Ace,
If it's the same as a 'head knife' this thread
might be of some help.......

It's a pretty good site anyway , even if the thread doesn't help.

Ace, if you ever decide to power sharpen that puppy, watch those points at blades end.  The hard felt wheel will take that knife away from you faster than Bruce Lee in a rage!

Thanks For all the advice Pards :) I did work on it a little today, but I stopped working on it when I got down to 2 fingers left on my right hand  ;D

Howdy All

This is pretty much the way I do mine, with the exception, that I use a power polisher/buffer with jewelers rouge after stoning, then I use my stropping pad. check this out

I use some emery paper on a hard surface after I have stoned my knives. After the emery paper I then use a strop board with white rouge to polish the edge. I would leave the buffing wheel until you get the idea of handling a round knife.

A friend of mine had one ripped from his hand and the power wheel sent it through the wall of a tin shed. Not something you want flying around your workshop.

I've been using a power buffer for years now, and never had a problem, but you need to know what your doing as well as holding your tool or knife blade tight, all power tools have the ability to injure and even kill you, that's why it's important to have an understanding of how each machine works and how to use it, I will say this there are folks that just jump into things, and they are the ones that usually get hurt, I think for the most part most of us are adults here and have a knowledge of power tools, but for the pards that don't, take TyG'S advice on this, for me I say learn how a machine works and how to use it before attempting to use one.

I say Sage Advice TW and TyG!

Even after many many years of using the same table saw I ended up with one finger a bit shorter than it should be!! :-[
