Bad news, troops.
Our Nebraska State Arsenal building will be open for display at the Nebraska State fair for next week.  And that may be it for open display.   ??? The State Fair is moving to Grand Island, stating next year and the University of Nebraska takes over the  fairgrounds in Lincoln.   :P

The building is an original brick structure that was our official NG arsenal.  It is now a museum complete with displays of weapons, uniforms, gear, photos, paintings, vehicles, aircraft, armor, artillery, and everything military.  There is a chronological trip through the building starting with the Civil War & goes on up to OEF & OIF.  During the week of the State Fair, the G Company (Volunteer Cav) keep an encampment there in front doing formations, weapons demonstrations, camp cooking & muster of Civil War era.
We are very proud of it and those of us (Army Guard and Air Guard) who work on keeping it up.

If you get a chance to get out to see it, it will be well worth the trip.  It may be the last time it'll be open like this.  >:(

Let's hope that it will never be torn down, either.  :o

Respectfully,

If St George reads this, I'm sure he could expand on what all has been done there at the Nebraska Arsenal over it's many years.
He is an excellent Nebraska military historian.

Don't get me started on all the problems of moving the fair!  The University better not even THINK of tearing that building down.  (Oh wait, it's a major university, so there's not much chance of any real thinking going on there.  And yes, it's my alma mater.)

If they cause it to be tore down I hope the wrath of God causes them to never win a football game till you know where freezes over for the third time.  If they were concerned about history down there they never would have caused the fair to move from it's historical site in the first place.

BTW I hear it still ain't a done deal yet, the Nebraska Supreme Court gets the final say, would be funny if they rule against moving it. ;D

Good luck with that, friends.  Here's one Hoosier hoping the Court will see clearly and leave your history alone!

Don't hold your breath.  In Nebraska, if the University wants something, they usually get it.  They've wanted that property for years.

I hope this important part of Nebraska history is preserved for future generations to visit and learn.
