The Lone Ranger comeback?
« on: September 04, 2009, 11:47:29 PM »
It's funny how everything old becomes new again and somehow manages to keep itself "new", or words to that effect.
Dynamite Entertainment has returned the Lone Ranger to the comic book medium.
It has endured some backlashes for its graphic depictions of violence, however.

Any thoughts on the subject?
A work in progress.

Cool, I'd like to see them make a major motion picture of the Lone Ranger. Start with him being in the Texas Rangers and how he got his mask. Also, I think a movie of the Red Ryder stories would be neat. I probably live too much in the past, but what the heck most of us cowboy shooters do. It would certainly beat most of the weird stuff they put out now.

Better to live in a past where things make sense than a present where things are senseless!

Well that's how I look at it anyway! If they're serious about bringing the Lone Ranger back to the big screen then they better get it right. I for one feel that if the audience doesn't enjoy one particular Western movie that it's going to "kill the genre". It seems to me that movie studio executives will always try to use that as an excuse to not make another. Even if that means ignoring what made the "good ones" work in the first place.
It's always about the short fall with them and that's what's hurting the genre today.
A work in progress.

I'd hope they do a better movie than 'The Wild Wild West' or 'Texas Rangers'.
Yes, I do have more facial hair now.

Ironically both of the movies you've mentioned are in my dvd library! :D
Granted, they're far from perfect and highly inaccurate. They made a movie about the Texas Rangers yet not a single shot of it was filmed in Texas? >:( If they made a movie about the Alamo someplace besides Texas well...that would raise all kinds of cain.
As for Wild Wild West, well I can't get enough of Jim West's 1861 Navy Long Cylinder Conversion! 8)

Well, just to reaffirm your faith in Hollywierd, there IS supposed to be a "Lone Ranger" movie in the works (with a release date in 2012).  Last I heard, they had yet to cast the Lone Ranger, but they have Tonto already cast.  And the winner is...JOHNNY DEPP!   :o :o

Just to set the record the record straight, I don't think many good things about Hollyweird these days. James Mangold had to struggle to get Three Ten To Yuma remade. After listening to him tell his side of the story, I get the feeling that even he is just as frustrated with the system as us Western fans are.

I like movies, not Hollyweird.
