Howdy,
Thinking about buying an Osborne snap setter, the one with the frame to keep the setter post straight. Anyone have one? How do you like it?
I don't use alot of snaps, but I hate setting them with the crappy Tandy Leather factory setter and anvil. Too many times the two pieces don't stay aligned after you crimp the post down.

I use to have the same problem with the Tandy snap setter, and then I started using my 15 pound anvil with the cupped snap anvil on top, after centering the heads on the snaps over the little cupped snap anvil and hitting it square I got a perfect set. you might want to give this a try, I have found that you need to have everything lined up straight and the snap head sitting perfectly in the cupped anvil before hitting the setter. give it a try and let me know how it went.

Thanks, Ten....I'll give it a go!

GeorgiaWolf I forgot to mention that I also use a steel hammer when tapping the setter down, I find the added solid and heavier weight of a steel hammer gives me better results than any of my leather mallets, you can feel when it sets. IMHO, like with all metal hammers, wear protective eye wear when using.

Howdy GW
Tandy has a heavy duty setter set and that is what I use. I have not had a problem since I changed to it.

I find a heavy weighted hammer works better for almost everything. For imprinting the larger stamps and my makers mark I even use a 2 pound lead hammer. The problem with steel hammers is it will eventually peen over the top of the setting tool.
