Ottawa Creek Bill

I've been riding this six year old Black and White Paint Horse for the last two months or so, and now he is mine.

We hit it off the first time I rode him. He is used to spurs, knows all his cues, side passes and has a gated trot...real comfortable on these old ba**s, and can run with the best of them, and gun fire doesn't bother him.

Steve Money (stable owner) and I are going to teach him to lay down, with a rider on or off. Should make a great stunt horse.

Is he pie eyed? Picture is little de-see-ving. I could get one down while stand to the side of him but never could figger out how sit on 'm not for not trying...Good Luck on yer efforts....If you slow motion the beginning of "Mountain Men" when Heston and Keith had the collision you can see the double is using a cable(running W?) on the fore leg

Rooster.....its the angle of the photo, he has a beautiful head. No cables or ropes, he'll go down and get up on ques when we are finished with him. I thought the stunt (which is outlawed in the states now) with the wires attached to the horses front legs was called the flying W?

Here's a better photo angle.....purty ain't he? On his papers his name is Cherokee...and I'm gonna change that. I'm one of those Indians opposed to naming horses and pets after Indian tribes or names.

Chase

Bill,

I'm with you on the name thing.  I have the same problem with Robert E. Lee naming his trusty horse after an
insurance company,  Traveler!!!

Very nice animal Bill, while I am not a big paint fan - he looks perfect standing next to you. Black on white, that would be piebald to me.

You both look like your ready to shoot that scene in Wild Bill Hickock where he and (is it Whistler riding a paint horse?) charge at each other with rifle and pistols blazing - I will pay to see you get shot off the back (that would be a back flip) of the that horse!  :D, and submit you for the AARP athlete of the year if you survive! ;D

In Tim McCoy's (one of the original big 4) autobiography he describes the stunt men of his day (1920's) who were basically out of work cowboys taking falls off of a horse. If you watch those movies they have some spectacular wrecks, much better than today's wimpy pull back on the reins and fall to the side. The reason for this is they simply used trip wires on the horse. He said many times this would break the horses leg and they'd simply shoot the horse. But horses were so cheap it was not a problem. So were the cowboys who did the stunt. They would do it for $50 a fall, which was huge money for those day's. If they were busted up they paid their own medical bills and the studio just offered someone else $50.

Congratulations on your purchase, there is something about a horse that is special.

One of the best modern falls I have seen is in the movie Geronimo with Matt Damon where a charging Indian shooting an old dragoon is shot off of his horse by lieutenant Gatewood. Watch it, that animal roles completely over him, I bet they didn't do a second take on that one.

Well, Wyatt (Earp) said he never saw a paint horse worth a damn.   Just kidding, actually I'm very jealous, would love a horse.   My wife grew up on the farm and they went through a number of horses and always thought they were an expensive pain, so she's really down on me having one.   However, just last month I went on a long trail ride in the Colorado mountains near Rocky Mountain National Park.  I usually get on a (rented) horse once a year.

Clifford Happy, was getting Pretty old(not a kid) when they made Geronimo....I'm pretty sure he didn't want to do it twice.

Bill, That's a better picture, great looking horse.  I agree with the names also, and can they quit using Cody, Dakota for their dogs and Horses.  Bought one named Durango once never cared for the name...Mostly called him Little Man, he was 14.2, once he figgered out I wasn't going to kill him he quit trying to kill me. Became the best horse I ever had.

Silent Joe

Bill, this is a magnificent horse. I've riding a horse looked like this one, but onfortunly it got a muscle disease and the vet. had to give her an injection. I'll still mis her.  Her tail is hanging in my cupboard and I've used it for my fringe jacket and hat. I hope you've a lot of pleasure with your horse.

Ottawa Creek Bill

Rooster...

This one is 15 hands and is a pleasure to get on and off of.

Jamie

Dear OCB,
Just picked up this thread, and I've got to agree, the horse is pretty.  I've always been a fan of the color breeds, had a couple of pintos, one was half Arab - red and white, and her daughter turned out piebald - a bay pinto - red, black and white.  I've got a soft spot in my heart for Appaloosas as well.  Unfortunately, no place to keep them (or to be technically correct, no place to put them while they own me  ;D )    At any rate, this one is close enough to a medicine hat there on the right that it's got to be worth a few points of good luck!

Congratulations on your new ride Bill. He sure is a nice lookin' horse.

ahhh!  FORWARD Dismount.. That must be holly wood lingo for a wreck... ;D  is Juddson one or Rex Linn family?

Yeah..... A well choreographed wreck!

NO, no relation. Rex Linn is white, Juddson Kieth Linn is Shawnee/Delaware Indian from Oklahoma.

Thanks to all for the favorable comments on my latest acquisition.

Got the certificate of registration for my horse yesterday and he is registered as a Spotted Saddle horse through the Spotted Saddle Horse Breeders and Exhibitors Association in Shelbyville Tenn.

And his real name is Rocket's Sinsation (yep, that's right, Sinsation, not Cherokee....so I'll call him Rocket).

Don't know much about Spotted Saddle horse's but I guess I'll learn.

Bill, What's the difference between the Spotted Saddle Horse Association and the American Paint Horse Association. The Paint Horse Association was in Fort Worth at one time, I don't know now.
