I've been looking around and found that there don't appear to be a lot of holsters for Remmies with 8-inch barrels. I'm wondering if anyone could recommend one - or at least give me some tips on how to find one? I'm talking about something that's functional but isn't fancy - money is definitely an issue right now. I guess I ought to mention that it needs to be historically accurate enough to be acceptable at an NCOWS match.

Also, I've seen holsters that appear to be called "Slim Jim holsters." They look rather tight and skinny and I can't imagine getting a good draw out of them, but I'm very new to this and could be completely wrong. Do they have any pros/cons and are they historically accurate?

Wear a wide belt and stick 'em in yer belt.  Lots of that was done and it's historically accurate.  Just don't drop a gun.

If money really is a big issue, you are not going to find a better buy for the dollar than this one from Cabelas:

I've been using these for years, in NCOWS and SASS matches...cheap but durable, and close enuff to being a mexican loop that NCOWS has no problem with them. (the snaps are hidden on the back side of the holsters)

That "Western Open Holster" from Cabelas is good.  I have several of 'em . . .  :)  They'll do me just fine until I have a chance to visit with Stan up at "Wolf Ears Equipment" . . . I crave to have him make me some . . . but I don't want to order 'em . . want to visit his place and haven't been up that way yet.  Great period coooo-rect leather work.  You'll be happy with the ones from Cabelas.  :)

With the exception of the "tripple loop" ones all the holsters are the Cabelas Open Holster except the very bottom which is the "Slim Jim".  The ones at the very top are modified to make 'em a crossdraw.

Beware the man with one gun, he probably knows how to use it.

I dunno about NCOWS, but just jamming a revolver in your belt is not allowed in SASS. Handguns must be holstered.

"All handguns must be carried in a safe holster capable of retaining the firearm throughout a
normal range of motion."

There are other requirements too.

When I use my Remmies I just jam them in my regular Duke rig. One is for a 7 1/2" Colt, the other is for a 4 5/8" Colt. The Remmie barrel simply sticks out of the bottom of the short holster. The only thing to be aware of in such a situation is that the front sight does not hang up trying to come up through the holster from below. It ain't a problem with my holsters.

For a low cost alternative, the Cabellas holsters are pretty good.
That's bad business! How long do you think I'd stay in operation if it cost me money every time I pulled a job? If he'd pay me that much to stop robbing him, I'd stop robbing him.

Ya probably inherited every penny ya got!

I don't believe you can use an unholstered gun in NCOWS either but I may be wrong, might just be a club rule where I shoot.
You can get a civil war era flap holster for Remingtons from Dixie Gun Works or other sutlers carrying civil war leather.
