So, it was a slow evening, so I turned on BLAZING SADDLES (Number 95) on the AMC network.

July 14, 2009 will be the 50th anniversary of Number 24 of the top 100 Westerns.

It'll be good to see The Duke, The Drunk, the Kid, and the Sidekick do their magic, again!
NCOWS #1154, SCORRS, STORM, BROW, 1860 Henry, Dirty Rat 502, CHINOOK COUNTRY
THE SUBLYME & HOLY ORDER OF THE SOOT (SHOTS)
Those who are no longer ignorant of History may relive it,
without the Blood, Sweat, and Tears.
With apologies to George Santayana & W. S. Churchill

I got Rio Bravo in Bluray for my new bluray player. I am hoping that they come out with a 70th Anniversary edition of Stagecoach in Bluray.

It has been playing regularly on HDNET TV - but during the lunch hour.  ???

Trivia questions -- How many times did Howard Hawks and John Wayne essentially remake the same movie?  Rio Bravo was one.  How many more?

For extra credit, can you name the other(s)?

Since Rio Bravo was, in my view, one of John Wayne's best movies..., except for Ricky Nelson... And old Walter Brennan stole every scene Brennan was in...!

The plots and character-types in Rio Bravo and El Dorado were practically identical. Rio Lobo was just a slight bit different. For the first two, note the strong similarities in the primary cast of characters:

HERO
*  Rio Bravo -- John Wayne as John T. Chance
*  El Dorado -- John Wayne as Cole Thornton

DRUNK SHERIFF
*  Rio Bravo -- Dean Martin as Dude (or Borachon)
*  El Dorado -- Robert Mitchum as J.P. Harrah

SIDEKICK NAMED AFTER A STATE
*  Rio Bravo -- Ricky Nelson as Colorado
*  El Dorado -- James Caan as Mississippi (Alan Bourdillion Traherne)

GRUMPY OLD CUSS
*  Rio Bravo -- Walter Brennan as Stumpy
*  El Dorado -- Arthur Hunnicut as Bull

LOVE INTEREST
*  Rio Bravo -- Angie Dickinson as Feathers
*  El Dorado -- Charlene Holt as Maudie

BAD GUY
*  Rio Bravo --  John Russell as Nathan Burdette
*  El Dorado -- Edward Asner as Bart Jason

BAD GUY'S MAIN HENCHMAN
*  Rio Bravo -- Claude Akins as Joe Burdette
*  El Dorado -- Christopher George as Nelse McLeod

This suggests that both John Wayne and Howard Hawks believed that you don't mess with success.

Hey be careful Daniel,if you cover up the Nel it spells Ricky Son and i have a brother named David. We used to cover the Nel part on the credits when Ozzie and Harriet played on tv and it read David and Ricky Son,which is my last name. :D :D
Bunch a ole scudders!

RIO LOBO had a great character actor named Jack Elam, the eye candy was Jennifer O'Neill, and The Duke was a former Union Colonel, Cord McNally.
