A National Treasure..I saw it about 25 years ago ..it was standing alone and upright in a single glass case at Smithsonian Museum of Man.
I went again about 10 years ago and it was gone, glad to see it back on display again.

I think we ought to take it out and PLAY with it. Think of the style points, shooting Frontier Cartridge Gunfighter and pulling out THAT Henry. Wowzeers!!

Wonder if they'd sign it out for a day, just to give it some fresh air and exercise?? I'd be sure to clean and oil it before I put it back!!

Loading ammo could be done, but not very practical...nice Idea, though.
I have handled a few indian weapons used at the Little Big Horn, including an Improved Henry.
Even explained/demonstrated to staff member how it was operated.

This is new territory for me so cut me some slack,but what site is that attached to Abes rifle and I don't think I've seen any of the Italian "replicas" so equiped.It appears to be mounted in a dovetail?

That appears to be a custom receiver mounted sight. If you look closely, you can see the empty dovetail in the barrel where the original sight was supposed to be.

The early Henrys had the rear sight mounted on the reciever. Many had dovetails on both the reciever and the barrel.

It appears to be an orginal sight to me. I doubt that the rifle has ever been fired and can see no reason the sight would have been replaced.

It is true that a number of the first Henrys had the second dovetail in the receiver and most will have their sight mounted there. Since President Abe's rifle is, I believe, serial number 6, it makes sense that that is where it is.
