Navy Arms 1873 SAA

Here I go again folks! I'm still looking at several guns and ran across a Navy Arms stainless 1873 SAA in .357 today at a shop. The gun is new and made by Pietta and looks great. Has anyone owned one of these? Is it on par with what I've read about EMF Greta Western revolvers and Uberti Cattleman guns. I would greatly appreciate anything anybody can tell me. I like everything about this gun, especially the stainless steel. Thanks!

Forget the fact that in 1873 no one had heard of the .357 magnum or stainless steel. If you like it, buy it.

Old Doc - I know - I just like .357 cause I can shoot .38 special without going bankrupt, and stainless has a certain amount of "forgiveness" in terms of care and maintenance. I'm more curious about reliability and durability. Thanks for those remarks - I know exactly what you're saying!

I did not know Navy Arms was offering a Pietta build SAA.

The Great Western II is a Pietta build SAA.  Its excellent.  A (fairly) accurate reproduction, robust, finished well, priced right.

I have a Navy Arms SAA but it's made by Uberti. It' a decent gun, not extra fancy but shoots fine.

Navy Arms, EMF, Cimarron, Taylor, etc., are all just importers.  They don't make guns.  If the Navy you are looking at is a Pietta it is a Great Western II and is a good Colt clone.  Easy to get parts for and works very well.

Pettifogger - Thanks for that! I'm still looking at it, and it's a really nice gun. It has the best feel to the action as any gun I've looked at. In fact, I compared it to a New Colt SAA in the same shop 2 weeks ago, and they felt virtually the same, only the Navy Arms was priced at $439 and the Colt at $1435. Big difference!

The Pietta will serve you well, the Colt will COST you WELL !

The Colt is the real deal and that to some that is the last word !  is it the shooting you want or the awe factor ?
A lot of Folks will say look at USFA ( a great gun ) even tout it over COLT....
It's your hard earned money

Major 2 - I appreciate your point. I just want to shoot and the Navy arms is good enough for that. I could never justify paying the Colt price. I was just commenting that the Navy Arms (Pietta) felt just as good to me as the Colt for a lot less $$$. Thanks!

If it were $ 1475 for a 1st. Gen. Colt  then I see the reasoning to collect.

but $1475 for 3 Gen. that you'll shoot... well it won't be a collector in anywhere near your life time.
Nice to say its a REAL Colt, but in the end it that $1000 difference...
Sure I have Colts, but I shoot Uberti's Richards, & Richards & Masons.

Exactly true what Major 2 says.

I bought last Saturday a Uberti Cattleman in 44-40 for shooting. I have a Colt SAA 44-40 for collection.
The same goes for Winchester, got a Uberti 1873 rifle for shooting and a nice Winchester 1873 for my collection.

Go for it and have fun shooting it.
