I have been loading the Lyman 300 grain bullet and the RCBS 45-325 bullet with black powder. I have been using Goex Express ffg and federal large rifle mag primers. I have tried 55 grains and 58 grains with the RCBS bullet with weighs 350 grains with 12to1 alloy. I have tried 62 grains and 58 grains with the Lyman bullet. I tap the cases to settle the powder and use a .030" vegtable card over the powder. So far the RCBS has showed the best results.  I was shooting last week and was able to get three shots to go 1-5/8" at 75 yards the last two shots opened the group to over 4-1/2".  I would like to get five shots off before I need to swab the barrel. But right now it looks like three shots is all I can get befor accuracy is affected. My bullets are lubed with SPG. I have never used grease cookies and really don't know how to make them. Does anyone have a recipe for cookies. Also will cookies help me get more shot between wipings. What kind of luck have you guys been having with your 45-60's and black powder. I would like to try some Swiss 1 1/2 fg but don't want to buy more than a pound before I try it. I have all kinds of Goex standard grade powder so that will be my next powder to try. This is my first bp cartridge reloading experiance. I have a lot to learn.  :o

1. Get a drop tube for dropping the BP. It will cause BP to burn more efficiently and allow more in the case.

2. Modern bullets don't have enough lube capacity for sustained fire with real BP. You need the 300 gr. "Big Lube" bullet.

Fox I have found thet tapping the rim of my case on my loading bench seems to settle the powder as much as a drop tube. I haven't timed loading, using both methods but I like the tapping method. I've read some guys use there tumblers to vibrate the powder in there cases. The way I tap mine seems to have the same efect as vibrating. You can see the differance after I do my tap dance. Thanks for the lead on the biglube bullets.
