I just wanted an excuse to show off my new gun cart. It was a collaboration with a woodworking buddy of mine. (A Deacon in our church) We talked about the design (He isn't a shooter) then he did the woodwork, and I put the stain/finish on. No doubt he did most of the work, and the hard work. The wheels pop right off, and it folds down real easy. Time permitting, I'd like to add some carved leather pads to the tops of the boxes.

We're going to make a couple of modifications. I thought leaning the uprights back a little would work better that straight up, but it's a little tippy that way. We need to widen the slots for the long guns, so they will fit with scabbards. The holster and shotgun belt are hanging on the breakdown knob, so I need to add a hanger a littler higher up, or get a small waist for smaller belts :o

He'd be happy to build some others. He's been laid off since last November. He's an electrical engineer, and does wood working for a hobby. He's been buidng beds and cabinets to put food on the table for his wife & four kids.

Looks Great JD! I love the box joints. It's so much fun when everything you cut goes together perfectly.

He uses a Dado blade, and made a jig to do the cutting. You can tell he's an engineer in everything he does.

That cart really looks good, JD. I like the idea of tooled leather on it. You could make a top for the lower box and pad it some to use for a seat.

You could inset the edge of the leather into the top of the box so when you glue it down, the leather looks more 3-dimensional. It was a common practice on desktops at one time. Here's an example of that kind of insetting.

Great idea Marshall Will. That is a fine example of leatherwork, and woodwork. Did you do that?

Thanks, JD. It's an old bell box. I just refinished it, tooled and inlet the leather into it. I made the stamp to set the edge by copying the one used on my grandfather's desk.
