Correct Hobnails For Time Period.

I was told but can not confirm, 'X' style hobnails are from WW I era and are not correct for the Civil War footwear. I'm told that the single "nail head style" are the correct ones. Can anyone clearify this matter? Any information is appreciated.

They said what I had was what they had, the 'X' pattern. They weren't able to answer my question either.
