Where were the dimensions of the M-1885 target found?

I've done several web searches and have been unable to find any original target specifications, nor can I find any qualification regulations in regards to the course of fire soldiers had to perform. I assume the distances were varied starting at possibly 50 yards and ending at 500 yards. Any photos and information regarding this would be greatly appreciated.

Are the current markmanship standards being revised because the level of difficulty is too low? The current target shows a "V" in its center which I can only assume has a value of 10. Does the 85% rule apply to those qualifying independently, or is the score higher?

Hello!
    They were published in Blunt's 1885 Manual for Rifle and Carbine Firing.  I think I have photocopies of the target specs and could send them if you want them.  I used them to make up a 25 yard reduced range known distance course that I usually shoot with a .22.  (You can shoot it with any battle rifle or carbine also.)  I offered it as a monthy postal match a couple of years ago, but no one was interested.  Let me know if you want the specs.

In Douglas C. McChristian's "An Army of Marksmen" 1981 published by Old Army Press. on page 65 are the deminisions from Blunts book.

The previous 2 posts mention the only resources I know of. Distances started at 200 and went out to 1000 Pistols started at 10 and went out to 60. To qualify as a marksman you had to score 80% at 200 standing, 300 kneeling, and 70% at 600 prone. To Qualify as a sharpshooter you had to score 88% at 200 standing, 300 kneeling, and at 600 prone and at least 76% at 800, 900, and 1000.

The current marksmanship regs are being revised because at 50 yds it it too difficult to use the battle sights on military rifles, the targets don't print well on a 8.5X11 sheet of paper, and because we included some firearms that don't belong on the approved list. I have the research done, I just haven't gotten everything finalized.

[MUD MARINE]

I just returned from a great circLe tour of SASS and BPCR matcvhes and finished with the Quigley. I found that, upon my return, that I failed to mail my targets. Is it too late or may I get off my DA and send them?

Boy, did I do badly at the Quigley. There's no problem with my cover fiitting properly after that dismal showing!   :-)
