Hi Y'all,

I said in an earlier post I broke a handspring.  I got a replacement from USFA, maker of the the SAA in question and the most economical of the prices I found for a hand assembly.  After some fitting and fumbling I've got it back together and shooting.  I ran into a peculiarity I'm hoping somebody can 'splain to me though.

With the cylinder removed the gun would go to full cock with no problems.  Put in the cylinder, though, and it wouldn't catch and hold at full cock.  That was with a Heine wire trigger spring.  On a whim, I took out the Heine spring and put the original flat leaf spring back in.  Voila, working gun.  Why the difference?

Thanks,

The wire spring has always felt better to me when new, but they tend to lose their strength fairly fast, and when weak can be dangerous, and it has a bad side, it can go bad and cause other problems with your action, the flat spring is much better, and a ton more reliable, if it were to break you will know it before other damage can be done to your action.

Using the flat spring was and is your best choice IMHO....

IMO the wire bolt springs ar "mushy" and don't give an authentic "feel" + they can lighten the trigger pull to dangerous weights.

Just speaking of my experience. I changed 4 SAAs to the wire bolt spring, after well over 1000 rounds through each. They shoot just fine.
I've had a couple of flat bolt springs break but never a wire spring, anyone?
Yes, I do have more facial hair now.
