Anyone tried the .512, 350 gr. bullet from Buffalo Arms?  The mould is made by them, they designate it the Jim 512-350 bullet.

It looked interesting, so I ordered a mould.  Just finished running a couple of hundred in 1-30 alloy.  I'll  pan lube them and run them through the .512 sizer.  Then it will be time to load a few up and try them out.

Looks a lot like the Rapine, just one large grease groove, but the nose is quite a bit more round and flat nosed.

Well, I lubed and loaded 50 rounds.  Filled the magazine, and they cycle through the action like they were greased.  I am impressed with the feeding on that somewhat stubby bullet.  They seat to the same depth as the Lyman, so, only 34 gr. FFG.

As soon as I get the chance, I'll see what kind of group they make.

Hi Frenchie
You mentioned about a .512 sizer?  As I hope to be in the market for a .512 Spencer ::), I'd be interested to know what this part is, and where to aquire one.  Also, is the Buf. Arms mold a single-cavity or otherwise?

Thanks

Bead Swinger-- the .512 sizer is one of the Lee push through type they sell.  All you have to do is to call Lee and request one in that diameter.  I believe that they charge $25 for it, as it is not a stock size.

The mould is made by Buffalo Arms, a good quality iron mould, single cavity.  It is set up for Saeco handles.  I talked to Buffalo, and they are lathe cut.  It certainly casts a high quality bullet, you can barely see a parting line, and fills well and drops easily.
I was surprised that such a stubby looking bullet feeds so well.  You cannot feel the round chambering. Slow or fast, if you don't watch, you cannot tell there is one in the chamber.

Well, gave the new bullets a 'Trial by Firing'-- used my Spencer at the NCOWS National Shoot this past week.  I used the Jim 512-350 bullet from a mould made by Buffalo Arms.  They fed perfectly, shot accurately, and carried enough lube to leave a nice star on the muzzle of my carbine.  I am impressed and would recommend them to any owner of a Armi Sport Spencer 56-50.

They should also be a winner in the .50 Winchester Express, and similar rounds.

I used  1-30 alloy, 34 gr. FFg., Federal 215 primer, and crimped in the crimp groove.  The lube is my own, but SPG or your favorite should work, as there is plenty of lube capacity.

I wonder if this is the old Buffalo Arms "BAC.512" revisited.  They discontinued that a long time ago.  Maybe it is back.  That was an excellet bullet, a lot like the Rapine with a deep lube groove.

I need a bullet with more lube than the Lyman 512139, for my old Swedish 12.7 X 44R rollers.  This one sounds pretty good.  Anyone tried it in a Swede roller?

The bullet mould that I purchased was listed as the Jim 512-350, and is so marked.  The number is now Jim 513-350 ( on the web page )  and the page is:  http://www.buffaloarms.com/browse.cfm/4,7685.html  .  I have no way to scan the photos to post or send to Two Flints.  I can say that you would think from a glance that the overall length of the loaded round will be too short, but such is definitely not the case.  The ogive is perfect for smooth and effortless feeding.

French Jack,

Your link doesn't work for me.  I did a search on the Buffalo site and came up empty.  Please, correct the link or help me to find the correct page on their site.

Thanks,

That's the link for his bullet, I dug it up.  Looks exactly like the BAC .512 they used to make, though it costs twice as much as it used to 5 years ago!

Thanks Tuolumne,

I was looking for already made bullets by that mould that maybe Buffalo Arms was selling in their cast bullet listing.

Thanks for the link.
