squaring barrel

i don't have a vise or any special tools for doing this just a file, my hands and line of sight. any pointers to get the barrel squared as good a possible. thanks in advance.

Duct tape...

Seriously...

Carefully measure and scribe your proposed cut, and neatly wrap duct tape around the line to ensure your accuracy.

That'll be the line you work towards, and while a vise will make your work a little faster - a good, flat surface - along with using your off-hand as a 'vise' will serve as well.

yeah i used electric tape to mark it when i went to cut it with the hacksaw. i will try duct tape for the filing. thanks for the advice.
