Does anyone know where to get checkered grips for an 1858 New Remington Army Conversion pistol? I sent an e-mail to Pietta in Italy but have not recieved a resopnse.

Generally speaking, Pietta in Italy will most likely direct you to one of their U.S. distributors. For parts such as grips, Cabelas is not a likely source, but you might try contacting other importers such as VTI parts, EMF, Taylors, etc. or even Numrich ...

You also might try a "shout out" to our good friend Alessandro Pietta, (yes indeed! *that* Pietta! ) who frequents these forums under the monicher  alchimista ... Just don't call him "Mister"  LOL :

Mr Pietta is my father..... you can call me alchimista, here, or Alessandro when you'll meet.

Done and done!  I sent e-mails to all you listed. I also sent an e-mail and a PM to Alchimista. I await their responses. The other 2 types of grips you suggest are a bit more fancier than I prefer for an 1858 Remington. Thanks for the heads up. I'll keep you posted.

Well....  I think I'm S.O.L.. I contacted all mentioned. Only 1 e-mailed me back with positive news, stating that they would check with the Italian maker to see 'if' they could get'em for me. That was almost 2 weeks ago, still no response. Alchimista never responded back at all. Oh well.

I have a guy that sent a Q to me ...He has a laser and does extraordinary delicate work in wood.
I saw his sample he sent over , it was Mayan calender in  about a 3" disk of Walnut.

He's shop just around the corner from mine , I was think of having my Remy Grips done....

That sounds great. I'd like to see them. I can't understand whay it's so difficult to find someone who sells them for the Remington already checkered(except for Pietta). I haven't read anything to the effect that checkered grips were not correct for that model when it was converted. Checkering was done on alot of Civil War firearms like the most accurate muzzleloading rifle of all time, the Whitworth rifle. If Pietta would only make them availiable, we would be able to display them more on their firearms. I already e-mailed and PM'd him, does anyone have another way to contact Alchimista?

He did some work on Cast Boolits and did some real nice stock engravings for the guys.... If he can do a deer I'll bet he can do checkering.  He does engrave grips.

I've given up on trying to find Pietta factory checkered grips. So many e-mails sent and nobody I contacted was able to help me. I'm going with Coyote Cap. Drifter's got me all set up for some sweet engraving to be done on the grips and at a reasonable cost to boot.
