I have some oil tanned leather that I am thinking about using for a money belt. It is about 5to 6 oz and a very nice texture. Would this be a bad choice or a good one.
It is not oily feeling at all and I think it would wear comfortably. Let me know what you think.
                  Thanks, Gun Butcher

Hi Gun Butcher

Seems like you've almost answered your own question...its a nice texture, the weight's about right & you think it'll be comfortable to wear

Ticks all the boxes I'd be going through - look forward to seeing a pic of the finished item

The oil tanned leather in 4/5 or 5/6 ounce will make you a fine money belt, here's a picture of one I made, it has full bullet loops and even with the added weight of that many bullets you can wear it all day in comfort.

I think you will be happy with the results. you want to do all your oiling or staining / finishing of the billet and chap and your loop leather before you stitch it to the belt, you don't want to add any finish or oil to you oil tanned leather, you probably already know this , but just in case others aren't aware of this, I wanted to point this out. For you bullet loops I prefer 1" loop leather, it will give better stability  on a money belt, with 3/4" loop leather, the bullets will tend to twist and look cockeyed IMHO

Thanks Ten wolves, That is a great looking rig and it gives me a good look at how the folded edge will be. The leather I have was bought for saddle strings but it has just become a canidate for alternate duties.
