Hi, I would like to no if I can change barrel pre war win. src 3030 with abad barrel  to 44mag

St. George

If it's a pre-war Winchester - I'd sell it and buy the .44 Magnum.

The internals as well as the barrel would require replacement and being a pre-war piece puts it into 'more' of a collector's arena - a buyer/trader who would most likely have a pre-war barrel to install.

The Model 1894 was designed for a long 'rifle' cartridge - and the Model 1892  for the shorter 'pistol' round.

That's why they're smoother in operation - not having the longer 'travel' of the Model 94.

At any rate, Good Luck.

At one time Gun Parts, Inc. of Hurley NY, had a kit to change a 30-30 to 44mag, and to 44-40. A lot on internals have to be changed, lever, cartiridge guides, and I think the hammer. The kit was like $140. 20 years ago. I think they still have it listed in the catalog, but it has been out of stock the last time I looked.

The re-barrel is the easy part.  The internal parts are a different matter, especially since it's pr-war.  Current manufacture parts (when find-able) may not "drop in."

I'd suggest a re-barrel either back to 30-30 or just for fun, 38-55.

I seriously doubt you can get a pre-war to run with pistol length cartridges.  The majority of recent manufacture 94s won't run correctly with pistol length cartridges.  Some will, but most don't.
