Tupelo Flash profiled new bullets he shot inside a convention center in Las Vegas. He shot rifle, pistol and shotgun rounds they said were made of wax, manufactured by Ten X Ammunition. My question is, what effect does the wax have on the inside of the barrels and how accurate are they.  ???

Curley Cole

I had wax bullets for my gun about 25 years ago, they are not new, however, Ten-X did come up with a good idea for the rifle and shotgun. Essentially the old time ones did leave a bit of wax residue on the barrel. TenX's appear to not have much affect on the bore as they are smaller....accuracy is about 10-15 feet. but at least you can shoot  inside...altho the shotgun primer does make a good bit of noise and smoke

You can make yer own by drilling out the primer hole to take a 209 primer, and use wax melted in a pie tin and stick the case in...There was instructions in the old Shoot magazine. If you have back issues, check em out.

Wax in a bore ani't no biggy, just run a couple swabs with mineral spirits down the bore.

I had no idea they've been around so long. 10-15 feet? Does that go for all calibers? How do they feel, shooting in wax?

Ten Wolves Fiveshooter

I was shooting wax loads back in the 60's, they have been around a long time, like Curley said they are most likely using a better wax than we had back then, on hot days back in the day we use to have to keep them in a ice chest and dry before firing, of coarse that's here in sunny hot California. We used them in Quick Draw comp. we even had red wax.

Use pariffin wax not bee's wax and they'll handle the heat better. If you have a copy of, 'No Second Place Winner' by Bill Jordan he tells how to make your own. Wax bullets have been popular with showmen for years. At close range they are dangerous but loose velocity real quickly.

If i remember correctly it was the book "No second place winners" where I learned to make wax bullets.
Its raelly seimple. Take a 1/4" dtill bit and ream out the flash hole(for .45ACP and .45 LC) then use large pistol primers.
For rhe wax just use some gulf wax parafin. Push the cases through the wax.
We used them occasionally for training purposes. They WILL raise a welt at less than 20  feer.
A buddy of mine used to  shoot them at his TV screen when Gumsmoke came on. he could out draw Matt with ease but scraping the wax from the screen was a pain.

My old shells were reamed out to take a 209 shotshell. They are very cool. The ss primer gives you a bit more power.
