Black River Johnny

I am having difficulty picking out clothes or finding the right stuff, right now I have the blue flannel shirt from River Junction and a pair of the light tan trousers, a pair of cav boots a tan hat, now if I am correct I believe the shirt I have is a liitle late for the time period I would like to be in. So if you guys wouldnt mind could you direct me in the right direction, I would like to have "campaign" style clothes for 1875-1880 I am using a '73 and to f company cimarrons. Is is also ok to use slim jims or california style holsters? also would a nine button wool vest be appropriate? I guess I would like to be dressed as a officer. I know these are a lot of questions but if you could help me that would be great. I would like to know what exactly to buy and where. thanks for any and all info.

There are a large number of posts on this forum that deal with the correct clothing and equipment - scroll through the 'back pages', and I'm sure you'll find good references and links to trusted suppliers.

Keep in mind that during the era, an Officer 'On Campaign' dressed much like the Enlisted Man - there wasn't a need for extras, since the Troopers all knew their Officers.

This is addressed in 'Boots and Saddles At the Little Big Horn' - by Hutchins, but is by no means all-encompassing - it's merely a start.

The 'John Ford Reference Library' presents a far different picture.
