Howdy Pards,

Now I have been looking at all your work which is brilliant and I am going to attempt my first holster. Firstly it will be for my little 31 Remmie (thanks for the pattern Dave) and then a new rig , saddlebags etc. I have found a company over here that supplies all the tools and leather etc but I need some advice.

What weight and type of leather should I order for a good solid rig. It's expensive and I don't want to order the wrong type.

Thanks in advance.

I like anything in the 8 to 10 ounce range, but prefer a 9/10 when I can get it, and that's in Veg-Tan only leather, these weights in leather work best for me, I make mostly period correct holsters, if you're looking to make a quick draw holster I would suggest you line  the holster, you can use two pieces of 5/6 ounce leather and that will give you a very firm holster. ( IMHO ) I got a little off course here, like SLOWHAND has stated, for a small to really small holster, 6/7 ounce should be fine.

These are such tiny guns that it is possible that the pattern was made for some really light leather and this would affect your needs.  I would not feel that these Lilliputians would be causing any undue strain of 6/7oz leather at all.  I would ask the pattern designer what he had in mind as being appropriate for his pattern.

Go for it Ned!!!
All mine have been built from 1/8"-5/16" thick leather, (don't know how that relates to 6/7 ounce, or whatever), but I have found that sufficient for even my Walker.

Don't forget that if it don't look right the first time, you can always unstitch it and start again, (I have!) :D

The other piece of advice I was given is:- Measure 3 times, cut once! ::)

Good luck, Angel Eyes. ;D
Trouble is...when I'm paid to do a job, I always carry it through. (Angel Eyes, The Good, The Bad & The Ugly)
