Here's a rig I just finished, I had the gall bladder out last week and have been off work so I had a chance to get this done. Thanks for all the tips on the cartridge loops and thanks for all the ideas from all your pictures.
The color is a deep cordovan that I achieved by first using saddle tan and then the cordovan to get the color I wanted. The belt is 8-9oz with a 4oz lining there are 28 loops for 45lc, the holster is for my ruger vaquero 4-3/4" bbl. I've already started a new rig this one is going to be a drop loop in black with conchos. Please let me know what you think and feel free to pass on any advice to improve.
Thanks
Robert

Love that color - never seen anything done in cordovan, but just might see more after people see those shots!

Thanks for the comments guys.
Major 2- The gall bladder was to small to make anything out of or I would have tried ;D.
Jamie- Cordovan is my favorite color on leather well next to black that is.

I'm thinking of using a little bit of mink oil on the belt to soften it up a bit as suggested by Marshall Will in another post.

Thanks again for all the kind words guys.
TW- I used fiebings leather balm with atom wax as a final coat before that I applied some lexol to soften the leather after it was stitched.
Gun Butcher- the loops came out good, there are a few mistakes but I'm happy the way it turned out.  I'm just getting back into making holsters it has been a hobby for quite some time, I wanted to get a new SA so I bought a vaquero and the urge to make some belts and holsters kicked in. I'm always looking at holsters and belt pictures to find my next project, with my expanded waist it's seemed easier to build my own. My wife says there are other tv channels besides the encore western channel ;D My next project will be a drop loop belt with a strong side holster and a cross draw, my big decision is whether to do the belt as a ranger style or the style of the belt I did here above I don';t know what that style is called. I've already stated making patterns.

I agree on the color comments! That's really great stuff!

I cut a 40" strip for the cartridge loops and thats how many it did. If I had cut a longer piece I would have more loops ;D

Jamie

If your waistline is like mine (and you indicate that it might be such) give it a year or two and you'll have room for a whole box! ::) ;D ;D
