I have just read the article 'The Henry Repeating Rifle' by  Andrew L. Bresnan.

These were also offered at $500 and chambered for the .44-40.They also advertised a reproduction Henry rifle chambered for the .44 Henry rim-fire cartridge. One of these rim-fire Henrys is located at the Perryville, Kentucky Battlefield Museum.............."

1. Anyone ever saw this Henry rifle at the Perryville Museum?
2. How many new Henry rifles made they in .44 rim-fire?
3. Did they produce 'new' .44 rim-fire cartridges for those Henry's?
4. What would you favor, a Henry in 44-40 or a Henry in .44 rim-fire?

Yes, they were non-authentic as they had an extra screw through the sideplates that are used on the '66 Model.  I had a friend with four of them and when he saw my Uberti Henry after they came out in the early 80's he almost wept as they were (are) far more authentic.

If I recall rightly and according to the LA book of Mike Venturino Uberti made 25 units in the original caliber.

I had read, that the manufacture of the .44 Henry rimfire cartridge was discontinued by the big ammunition companies in 1934 during the Great Depression.
So, who made the 'new' .44 Henry Flat?

No one. It was a gimmick for collectors. They were actually made in America (the guns). Believe me, the Uberti is FAR more authentic.

I HEARD (which is different than KNOW  ;) ) that there have been runs of 44 RF ammo coming from Brazil - or somewhere in S. America) on an INfrequent timespan that ended in the 90s.  Some other RF ammo was produced, too, in other calibers, but ...

I'm pretty sure about this info due to where it came from, but I'm not 100% sure.  It MAY have been ammo contracted by the company that made up those few 1970s era Henries, but that is just speculation on my part.

There were 50 of the .44 Rim fire Henrys made in the US by Navy Arms.  They do differ from the Henry reproductions made by Uberti and the Uberti made ones are a closer reproduction than the early Navy Arms.  Val Forgett President of Navy Amrs worked with Uberti to perfect the current Henrys, that would have been around 1981.  I have within the last two weeks talked with Kurt Holman who runs the Perryville park and he still does have the .44 rim fire Henry there.  There was never any New .44 Rim fire ammunition made for these Henrys.  There was however .41 rim fire ammunition made in Brazil for a while for the Remington derringer.  One gentleman I know had a .44 Rim fire Navy Arms Henry and purchased a center fire bolt for it and shot blanks in it.  Today the only way to go is either a .44-40 or .45 Colt.  I would go with a .44-40.  I have used my Henrys in Civil War reenacting and have converted them to shoot a blank made from .44 Magnum cases.  It now hold 16 rounds in the magazine as the originals did.  I have also shot .44 Russian ammunition fire live rounds in my converted Henry.

I encountered one of the 44 rim fire Henry's in a gun shop in Albuquerque, NM about 8 years ago.  The example I examined was fully engraved.  Price was $1600.......I reckon I should have bought it! :)
