I'm a huge fan of western movies, books, history, etc... and I got to say... Appaloosa just took second place right behind Tombstone.  Mainly because Tombstone is based on actual events, may not be totally accurate, but those things for the most part did happen, even if they forgot James! LOL

I gotta say, the recent westerns have been dang good!
here's my list:
1 Tombstone
2 Appaloosa
3 3:10 to Yuma
4 The Searchers
5 McClintock!
6 Once Upon a Time in the West
7 The Man Who Shot Liberty Valance
8 Dances with Wolves
9 The Good, the Bad, and the Ugly
10 Angel and the Badman

there are some classics on that list, and wow, Appaloosa and 3:10 can keep up with them!  Here's hoping there'll be more westerns made.  I like how Appaloosa was shot on real film, was shot on a real budget... it shows!  They were there for the sheer enjoyment of making that movie, of telling that story.  Not in it for a blockbuster or money, but for what movies are really made for, to tell a story and to entertain.  God Bless Them, I have always liked Viggo and Ed, now they're two of my favorite Cowboy Icons!

Mr. Dixon,

Please permit me to point out a GRAVE oversight on your part:  WHERE IS "LONESOME DOVE"?!?!   :o

Lonesome Dove weren't a movie.  Good, but not a movie.

In a movie they only got so much time ta get across their vision.  A TV deal like LD or Centenial gives the director more time an film ta do the job.  Movies er still made with theaters in mind even though in this day an age the line has blurred with in home technology.  Go to a theater an sit fer 16 hours with some fat kid munchin pop corn in yer ear an tell me that's a movie.
Not tryin ta split hairs here, I just see a big difference.

I just finished watching "Appaloosa" at home my DVD player. It wasn't a bad movie at all. I really enjoyed it. I would have paid good money for the pleasure of shooting Jeremy Irons. I would have furnished my own ammo.
