Grew up in a musical family, my mom played piano and organ for various churches, started playing when she was four, made sure all us kids learned something.  Me, I played alto sax, then the baritone sax, mainly cause it was big and so was I.  Then I picked up the base guitar and some regular guitar.  Bass players who could read music were limited in my area, so I started playing on Demo tapes for singers at this little homemade recording studio a friend had.  During that time I picked up the mandolin, dulcimer, and Tuba.  Played Tuba for a professional dixie land band until middle of my college years when the band leader died, our last gig was his funeral.  I picked around with a bluegrass band in highshcool and of course, since it was the early 80s, I was in garage-hair band.  I put them aside when I graduated college as life was very busy.   Started leather when I turned 30, mainly to make a holster/belt for my big waist.   5 years later, we had a garage-hair band reunion, i made guitar straps with the band name on them for everyone and a stick case for the drummer.  (band was named Marauder, so if anyone needs a strap saying Maurder, let me know, I misspelled one ;D.) still don't play much, dulcimer is the easiest to pick up as it is just so easy to play.   Dr. Bob, if you do have a music bug, pick up a mountain dulcimer, easy to learn and quick to play.

WC, that Silvertone is fantastic, what a cool guitar. My son has one close to that, (without the leather) that he got from my dad. He really treasures it, and playes it more than the other half doesn guitars he has. He's primarily a drummer, 4 year of high school jazz band, plus every other kind of music you can imagine.

Ace, if you have an original 58 Tele, not a reissue, there's your retirement. Those things are like gold.

I am embarassed to tell you how much $$ I've spent on musicial stuff over the years, trying to get the "righ sound" Amps will drive you nuts, and make you broke, especially the "Boutique" amps.

Over the last few years I had a Taylor T 5 Koa, then I heard an Anderson Crowdster and had to have one. These two were supposedly the perfect blend of acoustic and elecrtic, but IMO there's no such thing, or I'm too fussy. I am back to the Taylor 410, I love the sound. I have a complicated dual pickup in it, and run it through a good amp. I have to have it amplified, and it's not practical to use a Mic, though I have in the past. I just can't stand that still.

10 Wolves, I understand what you mean about these being "your people" especially when you add motorcycles!

Please forgive the typing, as I'm still fighting that one. I am making progress with my guitar, for which I am grateful.

I've played that guitar. He has a real nice tube amp that he puts it through. I think it is a Gibson amp if I remember right. My memory isn't what it.....uuuuhhhhh

I've been playing the guitar since I was ten years old and that is a long long long time, I can honestly say I am as good today as I was when I started and not a darn bit better same goes with my pool playing.

My mom made me take band in grade school. I wanted to play guitar in the orchestra at the time, but she insisted I play trumpet, and hated it. Kinda turned me off to music for a few years. I now piddle around with a guitar off and on over the past 20 years. Too bad she didn't listen to me as I could have been very good, considering what I have taught myself. I can play good enough to learn songs by ear, but not good enough to learn leads and real hard stuff. About the same level i am at with leather work, can make some decent stuff, just not real good with the tooling part yet.
