I've been looking at a 76 for months at a local shop. I finaly get the cash to get it and its gone. The guy at the shop is trying to order a couple of more but is haveing problems gatting a live person. I'm afraid that the new ones will cost more too. The one I was watching so closely was $1170. I hope I haven't missed out on good deal.  :-\

Dirty Brass

Try looking on GunBroker - I've seen a few listed there over the l;ast few months....

My gun shop still hasn't been able to get in touch with a real person at uberti.  :( I've got the money to spend and gettin itchy. I need to buy soon or the wife will find out I got extra money in my pocket.

Why don't you have your local gun shop call Taylors & Co. and order one?  They usually have them in stock and ready to ship.   Or better yet, call Tammy at Taylors directly and check:

They are great folks to deal with.

thanks ndnchf I may do that. The price that they get from uberti is cheaper so they like to deal with them. Plus they plan on ordering two so they can have one in stock. Which means I should be able to check both and pick the one I want to keep. If they order from Taylors I'll get one to choose from. Do you know what Taylors price is. The other will cost me $1170+tax.
Thaks Curdog.

You dont want a Taylors, I hear theyre made out of hammered Coors Light beercans. Do yerself a favor, buy a Chaparral, I have three of them and theyre all three great! Try CDNN.com, they have ALL the 76's for $699. No glossy red stained wood, a natural hand rubbed walnut stock and fore end.

Here is Taylor's web site:

http://www.taylorsfirearms.com/products/cfWinchesterCentennial.tpl

The price they show is retail, what you would pay if you walk in their showroom.  Your dealer would get them at a lower dealer price.  What he would sell to you for is up to him.  But if you bring him a case of Coors, he might cut you a good deal ;D

Whatever the price, these rifles are worth every penny.  Mine is beautiful, fit and finish are on par with my Shiloh Sharps and it functions perfectly.  No need to make excuses for this rifle  ;)

Ummm....no.  It may be "hand rubbed", but it ain't Walnut.  Having stripped and refinished three of them, I can say without too much hesitation that Chaparral uses Beech for its stocks.  Well-figured Beech, but Beech, non-the less.

Oh, and that glossy red crap on the Ubertis comes off to reveal some VERY nicely figured WALNUT.  ;D

Upon examining authentic '76's with the replicas out there, I think the Chaparral stocks most closely match, thats the point I was making. The figured walnut didnt start showing up until you went into the deluxe grades, standard models wore straight grained walnut stocks and fore ends. They just werent red!! ::)

Beautiful gun! And yes, it does have a 'Uberti' red tinge to it! The origional '76's Ive seen, including both the '76's and '73's at our little Buffalo Bill museum here on Lookout mountain in Colorado tend to be more of the walnut brown, but it could be due to the patina that comes with 150 years of air and weather's effect. Brownells sells a 'Winchester Red' stain, by Pinkerton's that you can apply to the finish of a gun, and it will actually etch itself iinto a finish, giving a real desireable reddish hue, as seen on the model 12's and pre-64 model 70's. I have a couple Ubertis in my 'arsenal' though, and have yet to see anything as red as what those good folks apply. Dont get me wrong, it looks absolutely beautiful against good case hardened frame. With that high gloss finish it  :Dreally hurts, though, when you ding it!!!
