Interesting .44 at TOTW

Greetings Fellow STORM fanatics -
Whilst perusing Track of the Wolf, one of my favorite online catalogues, I saw an interesting oddity - another 1851 in .44 but if this is in fact the correct photo, it seems to have a straight cylinder rather than a "stepped" cylinder.

Irregardless of the fact that an 1851 in .44 never existed, it seems rather remarkable;  I have not seen such a cylinder in a Colt  percussion replica before.

Can anyone comment ?

They've been around for a long time. They are an historical copy of nothing. Then again, for some it doesn't matter as it gives them a .44 percussion with a Navy grip.

That particular picture is definitely NOT a 44.  The cylinder proportions are of the Navy, a straight cylinder in 44 would be larger in diameter and the frame floor would be thinner.  The 44 also has a longer cylinder and a very short barrel extension/forcing cone.

Thank you Flint - that is my point entirely, that the photo posted looks like a .36, not a .44, and most especially the cylinder
*is not stepped* ... to the best best of my knowledge, the only straight cylinders in .44 are on the conversions , true?

You know what, you're right as the .44 on a Navy style frame had a rebated cylinder if I recall.

Also the barrel forcing cone is wrong for any 44 (1860 or Navy 44).  That has the standard 36 tapered long forcing cone.

I realized right off that a quandary of this magnitude would require a more abstract approach than the usual wild speculation we generally utilize when faced with such imponderables.
Therefore I undertook the bold step of actually contacting TOTW  where David explained that, "We re-used an old photo of a .36 revolver, that was essentially identical. Yes, the actual .44 revolver has a small rebate on the cylinder."

So there ya go...mystery solved!

Guess I'd at least think twice or ask TOTW about the originality of their picture before I got serious about purchasing one of their firearms.

Egads! What Cunning! What Audacity! What Brilliance! The magnitude! Incredible! You have done that which we could not, as She Who Must Be Obeyed has temporarily put a limit on contact with such vendors, lest an abomination occurr to the budget.

Arrrgggg! The Scoundrels! The Dastardly Villians! Seeking to pawn off Old Images as though they were the Real Thing!
We have been duped! Duped I say! Befuddled by the lazy Scoundrel who attempted to foist off a .36 as Something It Is Not.

Our trust is Shattered! Our faith misplaced! No More will TOTW hold the highest esteem in the eyes of the great unwashed.

I am devasted.  I rend my Hair, I tear my Garment.

So there ya go...mystery solved!

We thank you sir, you have done a Service to the Community, ending the Incredible Mystery that has had our poor craniums in a state of befuddlement (but at least distracted from the debacle of the Great Primer Shortage of '09 )

I shall now totter off to scour the roadways for more dead snakes to render into snake oil for my loyal customers.
