 the Columbus Rifle Club
Cowboy Action Shooting   April, 2009

I need to inform everyone that any matches at the Columbus Rifle Club are run by the Columbus Rifle Club and not any separate group.  Our insurance company had some confusion with the use of the name High Plains Renegades for the Cowboy Action Shooting, so that name will no longer be used.  There is not a separate High Plains Renegades calendar, only the Columbus Rifle Club event calendar.

We Shoot on the 5th weekend of the month in those months with 5 Sundays.  For the Sunday matches, Sign up at 9:00AM.  The safety meeting will be at 9:30.  Shootin' starts soon after.
We will set everything up on Saturday afternoon prior to the 5th Sunday and have an informal practice match then.  Call for practice times.  So please join us on these dates.

May 31st
August 29th
November 29th

On March 29th we gathered for the first match of our season.  To shake off the winter blues, we shot 5 fun filled stages with plenty of bonus shots and some interesting target orders.   Not that scores matter but hear they are:

Cowboy Action Shooting
We follow SASS safety and scoring rules.  Weather your used to shooting SASS, GAF, or NCOWS, we have a class for you.  These are some basic guidelines.
Shoot the Guns of the Old West like single action revolvers, pistol caliber leaver action rifles, and old time shotguns.  Hunting and military rifles too.
Your score is your time plus penalties for misses and such.
An honest effort to dress in appropriate "old west" style clothing is appreciated.
All main match ammunition must be center fire using lead or lead alloy bullets.
Speed of ammo, Rifle 1,400 FPS maximum. Pistol 1,000 FPS maximum.  400 FPS is the minimum with a minimum Power factor of 60.  Power Factor = (bullet grains * fps) / 1000
The "Spirit Of The Game" is a term we use to describe the honor of the old west, a handshake was your bond and honesty was the rule of the day. It also means the shooter fully participates in what the stage requires.

What! A second saturday shoot?! That means that we could have a shoot the first 3 weekends of the month, just here in Central Nebraska! And then Columbus added to the mix, we got lots of chances to shoot in September!
Pitspitr, can you post your info for that separate on the forum?

I mailed out about 80 registration forms.  If anyone wants one and didn't get it in the mail , let me know.  I think you can print it of from this thread a few posts back or I can mail you one.
Anyone in the area that would like to lend a hand on Firday would be greatly welcomed. Scruffy broke his leg and will be laid up for a while, so we could use any extra hands.  I don't expect any help from the local club but at least we get to use the range.

Happy shooting.

The Columbus Rifle clubs:
Fall Cowboy Match
This was 3 stage match . We shot all 3 before lunch and again after lunch.
Participants could shoot just the morning, just the afternoon or both and use
their best scores. The day went something like this:
Your out hunting for a nice spring gobble for the pot. You find one and
take your shot. Just then the woods erupt with renegades trying to take your
turkey and your scalp. You call out "That's my turkey!" and fight back.
You are sitting at the sheriffs office when one of the townsfolk comes in to
tell you that Haymaker and his gang of rowdies have started a fight at the saloon
and are bustin' the place up. You head to the saloon to take care of the problem
and call out "OK Haymaker, that'll be enough for today". Then the
shootin' starts.
Cattlemen have overrun your land, burning you out of house and home
with nothing but your trusty Henry rifle to defend yourself. When you try to take
back your land, the head rancher and his gang of thugs call you out. You answer
" Mister, you ever see what a Henry rifle can do in the hands of
someone who knows how to use it? " and drive them out.
Not that scores matter much, but here they are:
Shooter Class Score
Gus E. James Gunfighter 98.97
Crooked Creek Dick 1-hand hold 112.96
Frank 2-hand hold 125.20
