Hi, I know that the use of rivets goes clear back to before Christ.
My question is: Does anyone know when the "Harness rivet was invented or first used? I'm refureing to the rivet with the post and washer that you peen. Usually made from copper but sometimes brass....

I make a lot of stuff for mountain man/fur trapper era and am wondering if these would be correct for the period.

Thanks Guys

Since at least the time of the Romans...

Knifesheath circa 1840 - it is well doumented that the trading companies took saddler made sheaths to rendezvous amd A. J. Miller's prints show what has been interpreted as a single line of well spaced "tacks" - IMO they are not tanks and this is what the saddler made sheaths looked like - plain, simple, utilitarian, and cheap to make and sell...to blacken use vinegaroon aka vinegar black

That sheath is really interesting, Chuck. I kinda like it. It has a very functional look and appeal. Thanks for the photo.
