Johnny McCrae

Howdy Cowboy,

That's some pretty good "messing around". Very nice!
You need to learn to like all the little everday things like a sip of good whiskey, a soft bed, a glass of buttermilk,  and a feisty old gentleman like myself

Nice carving cowboy,  looks like you could teach a class on it.
You could do some bigger leather pictures like Will G. does.  Sell them at cowboy events.
I'll bet you could do horses and cowboys great.

That moose is quite realistic. You sure do have the ability. Figure carving is a different ballgame. You have a knck for it.

Those all look real good.
Are you using figure carving bevelers or regular bevelers?

From all the classes I've taken from Masters like Bob Beard, the bevel in figure carving should fade away to nothing.
It's different from regular carving where we want to see the edge of the beveling. Try to get of the halo made by the beveler.
I'll post some pix after while.

Howdy Cowboy
I know what you mean. when I did my first figure carvings I didn't know there were special bevelers for it.
Here is one of my best attempts at it.
Hope it helps.

That shows the fade-off nicely, WC. I use a figure bevel most of the time, even for floral stuff. I find them easier to do smooth beveling. Nice snake, pard. Makes me want to make sure I have my boots on. Thanks for the link.
