It was December when I posted this. :-[ Does anybody have one? What are they like?

Four Eyed Floyd

I have an AWA Longhorn very sweet six gun, very slick right out of the box.

Would they still benefit from a gunsmith's touch?

By the way, I called AWA on Friday and asked them if I could order an Ultimate 1873 with an 8 inch barrel. His response was; "Wow! Never heard of that before. :o That would definitely be a custom order, but it can be done." 8)

The only way too know that is to get one and see. If you have money to burn you could send it to a smith, but mine couldn't be any smoother and the smith I took it to used it to make my Uberti a little slicker, but still not even close to the AWA!  ;D

I'll have to find out for myself sometime in the near future.

Ridgway, Sorry I just saw this post. My wife and I both shoot ultimates in cowboy fast draw. They are very good guns. The service is great also. When I got my first one it skipped when I cocked it for fast draw but it worked when you cocked it slower so my wife used it and then we sent it back and they fixed it right up and reblued the cylinder. I have put some time into both of them as I hve special needs for fast draw, (I have timed them for fast draw) but other than that they are pretty much good to go out of the box. They utilize a coil mainspring and are very smooth.

You're right on the money Virginia Gentleman. Every part is manufactured by Pietta. The parts are shipped to a facility in Florida where they are fully assembled and finished(according to customer specifications, I presume).

This is just like the same model for manufacturing that US (Patent) Fire Arms had in the 1990s, buy the parts from the Italian manufacterer, fit, finish and assemble here in the USA.  Interesting as it seems like an idea that has been proven.  By comparision, Cimarron does some of this, but not to the degree that they assemble the guns from purely parts.

Time will tell what American Western Arms and Cimarron Arms does in the future.

Cimarron is not just importing guns made to 'their special specs..but now assembling guns ?

This I did not know.

From what I have gathered, Cimarron assembles the Uberti parts and applies the custom finishes per customer request in Fredericksburg, TX. One of my favorites is the Evil Roy gun with the 5 1/2" barrel. The Cimarron Model P does not have that ugly hammer block safety. ;D That's the reason why I choose Cimarron if I want a Uberti product!

I think at the least they tweak them with new interals and if desired they go to Doug Turnbull at Turnbull Restorations to get the US finish with real caasehardening and a high polish blue for the other externals.
