'Just wondering if anyone has tried something that would resemble the .38 Snakebite Big-Lube design in .44? I have some .44R and .44Spc that I'd like to try the design in.

Thanks

If you mean a truncated cone style bullet, then sort of.

It's called the 44Slim, a 160 grain bullet. It can be bought from www.whyteleatherworks.com

How about DDs MAV Dutchman. Mine drops at .430. Ought to be perfect for a 44 special.

Hey Slim,

How do they feed in a 73?

The 44Slim is my regular bullet for my '66 rifle and carbine. I have sold quite a few and only one guy with a Marlin has had any trouble with it. And it wasn't a feeding problem, he had trouble pushing them into the magazine, it seemed to catch on something going in. It DOES have a little lip on it, being a SWC, so anything is possible. It was the only style that would get the weight down and still have a full length nose to fed in the toggle actions, unlike the EPP type bullets. The 45Slim I run in my 45 Schofield chambered '72 Opentops, looks almost identical. Both these moulds were Group Buys from LEE ran by myself. There were about 35 takers for the 44Slim and 11 for the 45Slim. Unless DD decides to stock them or someone runs another GB the moulds will not be availlable. I am in the bullet business, not the mould business. I am perfectly willing to send the specs to anyone who wants to honcho another GB for them, though.

The Snakebite Greasewagon, designed by ol Snakebite himself, came about because he wanted a black powder bullet that he could load in cheep 38 Spl. range brass and end up with .357 Magnum OAL.  This it does very well.

Now, for the 44 Caliber, there's no corresponding savings on brass.  So, there's never been a demand to design a bullet that would load in shorter 44 Cal brass and end up with longer 44 Cal OAL, as in 44 Magnum.

The Mav Dutchman, brainchild of Mav Dutchman, 44 Cal bullet was originally designed for the 44-40.  I've found that it works very well in 45 Russian, 44 Special and 44 Magnum guns as well.  In fact my "go to" guns are a brace of 44 Magnum RVs and a Browning 44 Magnum 92, all loaded with a packed load of FFFg under Mav Dutchman 200 grain RNFP Big Lube™ boolits.

Yup Slim, I'd like to get those drawings of yours.  If things develop the way they're headed, I'll be able to add them to my inventory of Big Lube™ bullet mold designs.  More on that to come. . .

No problem DD, and I'll send you the specs for the 45Slim also. But not the 38Slim, I don't like it as it is right now. It works OK but is a real PIA to cast properly. Things don't always come out right the first time, as you know. But there is learning going on here!
