Howdy WARREN T UPP ,

Click my banner below and you will find the bullet designs you need.  There are several good casters if you don't cast your own.  They are in the links section.

Load your own bp shot shells.  They're easy to load and the considerable money you save will allow you to soot a LOT more.  You will get a lot of advice here on reloading.  Also, go the DARKSIDERS DEN library and you will find plenty of info.

Welcome, and good luck.

Why would you (anyone?) use Tripple 7? It's more like smokeless then it is like BP.

I bought Goex shoot shells, in the past. They are getting hard to find and expensive so I'm heading towards reloading my own.

WTU, before you choose bullets, powder, etc you need to decide if you want to try to win the chance to buy a belt buckle at a Major or if you want to make big clouds of smoke and BOOMS! and get to hoot and holler. Because it really makes a difference.

If you are fast enough to reach the top, try some really light bullets in Adirondak Jack's Cowboy Special cases, I think there are even Pards that can make them work in a rifle.

But if you aren't all that fast, buy a case of FFG, load your ca'tridges with between 28 and 40 grains of The Holy Black and a 230 to 250 grain pill, try to get some paper or all brass shotgun hulls, load 'em up and start blasting. Don't forget the Yee-Haw!

There are several reasons why a shooter may prefer to use 777 over real Black Powder. First, it is not classified by the BATF as an explosive, as real Black Powder is, so it is more readily available in many areas. Many localities, including where I live, will not permit the storage and sale of real Black Powder, wheras anyplace licensed to sell Smokeless powder can sell the substitutes. Yes, you can buy it in bulk over the internet, but for a begginer it is often much easier to go down to the local store and buy a pound of a Sub.

Secondly, you can use regular Smokeless lubed bullets with 777. Much as I love the Big Lube bullets, they are unnecessary with 777, you can use any hard cast bullet lubed for Smokeless with 777.

All that said, 777 is advertised as 15% more powerful than real Black Powder, and delivers that much more recoil. I have an old EuroArms Remmie that is the same size as a Pietta. I have found that with my R&D cylinders I do not care for a full load of regular Black Powder behind a 250 grain bullet in the 45 Colt case. The recoil is a bit uncomfortable in my Remmie. I don't mind the same load in my Colts, but there is something about the grip shape and weight of the Remmie that it is uncomfortable for me to shoot. I suspect with the 15% more power available with 777 it would be even more uncomfortable to fire a 250 grain bullet in my old Remmie. At least for me. That would steer me in the direction of a 200 grain bullet for that gun, which is exactly what I shoot in my Remmies. As a matter of fact, I had my R&D cylinders altered to accept the 45 Schofield case, and my normal load for my Remmies is 28 grains of FFg Black Powder behind the J/P 45-200 grain bullet in a Schofield case. With the more powerful 777 you might consider this if your Kirst will chamber the Schofield round with it's larger diameter rim. Except you can get away with any hardcast Smokeless 200 grain bullet.

In your rifle, it is not as important, because the heavier rifle can absorb the recoil and you will not notice it as much. A fully loaded 45 Colt case will be fine in your rifle.

That's bad business! How long do you think I'd stay in operation if it cost me money every time I pulled a job? If he'd pay me that much to stop robbing him, I'd stop robbing him.

Ya probably inherited every penny ya got!

Thanks, Driftwood but you're not saying anything I don't already know. Well, exept for where it is that it's harder to get real black powder then here in the People's Republic of California. As far as 777 smokeless powder? Try: http://www.hodgdon.com/pyrodex.html

Don't get me wrong. I've tried 777 and found it to be nothing more then a smokless powder (granted, a smoky one)  being passed off as a black powder sub. If you really want to get a feel for what it's like to shoot BP without shooting real BP, try Pyrodex or APP. It's not the real thing but it's way closer.

But, don't call yourself a Warthog for shooting 777. You're only fooling yourself, if you do.
