Here is a preview of the new, soon to be announced, DD/ROA Mk-II bullet profile.  Soon, I shall have increased freedom to bring designs such as this to physical reality.  In the meantime, I invite and encourage your input.

The bullet is designed with a dual rebate heal.  This way, it can be loaded via the Tower of Power cylinder loading stand in C&B chambers under .450 in diameter.  In fact, the lower rebate would fit into out of spec and under bore Remington 58s and make the bullet sit plumb and square under the rammer.  For ROA shooters, it would be just like the original DD/ROA.

The huge lube groove would insure full "all the way to the muzzle" wet bores when loaded for rifles.  You reading me here???

Now, let's talk rifles.  Please note that the nose is FLAT with a 2 degree draft for ease of mold release.  The OAL of the bullet loaded in 45 Long Colt brass would easily match SAAMI Spec.  In other words, it would cycle, shoot and eject great.  Here at last would be a single bullet that would meet both C&B and long gun requirements.

I'm months away from releasing these molds, but that and a LOT more is coming from Dick Dastardly Big Lube™ Black Powder Supplies.

I have much more to announce, but this should provide some of interest.

Dick, I thank you for addressing the rebate issue we had a few months back. That is my biggest problem with the 150EPP-UG in my guns. I think these will be a sure winner.

It's early in the game, but there could be a dual rebate EPP-UG in the works somewhere down the line.  Right now, simply tip 'em over and load 'em backwards.  I've got a bunch of C&B shooters doing that now and they report great success.

Thanks for mentioning.

Aw heck, DD. I dont need to turn em over. I find great joy in them using them in my 45 Schofields with a full case of 2F.
I havent shot my capburners in a little while, but they are due to come out. I will try the backwards thing with them then.

Mako

Dick,
Is the grease groove on your new bullet really that deep, or is it just an artists rendering?  The ratio of the groove depth to diameter is a lot more than the EPP-UG, is it the same as the original DD-ROA?

Howdy Mako,

Sharp eyes there.  There is more apparent depth to the lube grove because there are adjacent raised driving bands on the main body diameter next to the grove.  This was done to make the bullet work over a larger range of bore sizes.  This bullet can be lube/sized all the way down to .447 and as large as .456 and still give give a good seal so the lube won't try to crawl around the bullet under pressure.  Yet with pan lubing the fragile driving bands (learned from the success of the EPP-UG) can easily be seated in a wide range of chamber sizes typical of clone C&B guns.

Actually the shaft diameter at the bottom of the lube grove would be the same as the DD/ROA original.  This bullet is still under development, but I wanted pards to see some of what is coming from Big Lube™.

There are other projects under consideration but they will appear one at a time and only after thorough testing.

Wow DD I`m glad you`ve decided ta go ahead with it......... Re: PUK`s .45 BP test =BLOODY BRILL!!

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Big Lube™ is an evolution in Black Powder shooting.  PUK has taken what was intended to be a C&B design Big Lube™ bullet design and made it work in 45 Colt rifles.  Apparently he has done it well because his shooting experience is well within the "excellent" grade for Cowboy Action™ shooting.

What I intend to do is take what our fine pard from the UK has done with his own blood, sweat and tears and make it part of the progress that makes Big Lube™ the high standard of Holy Black shooting.

So, from now on when I order DD/ROA molds from LEE, they will have a flat nose with a 2 degree cast off for easy mold release.  The pistols won't care one whit, but the rifles will thrive on the new bullet.  So, there will be a Big Lube™ design, based on the valuable research of Paladin UK, that will feature a flat nose, but it will have the .450 rebate base that makes it so easy to load in the ROA chambers.

Ok, can anybody now not know that there is genuine learnin' goin' on here.  This will result in another fine Big Lube™ design that will embrace the principal of function and versatility that Big Lube™ designs are based on.

PUK, you will get one FREE new design DD/ROA 45-210 mold from the first batch ordered.  It will feature the flat nose design that you developed to make it compatible with tube magazine rifles.

Yup PUK, you did it first.  Most of the Big Lube™ molds were designed by others.  Yup, there's a few new features worked into the plan, but PUK did it first.  So, when I name the new mold I'll have to incorporate the PUK initials into the design name.

There's way more to know than simply making a new mold design here.  I hafta bite my tongue here, but there are some interesting announcements shaping up.  Nuff said for the moment.

I wish you could incorporate a crimping groove into these boolets, too. Just that would make those slugs work well in ca'tridge revolvers, too.

Dick Dastardly

Mornin' Pete,

Good point.  Take another look at the narrow driving band on the nose end of the crimp grove.  By crimping at the top edge of this band the bullet is held very securely.  That's the way I do it with the lil EPP-UG and it works great.  Of course the bullet needs a nice firm seat on Holy Black to keep from sliding further into the brass.  But that's not a problem for you, me and any other shooters of the Genuine Powder. :)

Your wish is my command.
