Springfield Amory modifications

two flints thanks for the information about my action. Now I have sever other questions. 1. Is there any way to find if ser. #28630 was issued as a rifle or a carbine? The reason I ask is that the action is milled for the saddle bar on the left side. 2. Was it modified after the war by Springfield Amory? 3. If so what were the modifications? There is a lot of history with this piece, it was in a lot of action from the time it was issued to the end of the war. The reason for the information is I want to recreate it as it was then except for the cf block.

As stated earlier in another post, your Spencer was issued to a member of Co. E, 148 Pennsylvania Volunteer Infantry on or about October 1864. As issued, it was a rifle, according to my Springfield Research Service, Volume IV. I do not have any other information on your Spencer.  Sorry.
