Recently, I became the owner of several thousand Fiocchi 616 primers.  After looking them up on the web, it seems I can use them as replacements for my Federal 209 primers.  My question is... should I?   Has anyone here tried using the 616 primers instead of 209s?  What did you think of the results?

Thanks for your thoughts.  I'll probably load up a 100 shells and give them a good try-out.  But I figured I'd ask first, just in case it weren't a bright thing to do.   ;)

With BP (real, not the faux stuff) the primers are not important for shotguns and you can use any. For smokeless, NEVER EVER change the primer from the loading data!!  ;)

As correctly stated, with Holy Black the primer is of little concern.  If it is reliable, and Fiocchi primers are, they'll go boom.  If you are loading smokeless heathen fad powder, consult a load manual.  There is good data for Fiocchi primers and hulls.  Ballistic Products is one good place to look for that data.

Enjoy the smoke!

One note, unless they have changed since the great primer shortage of the 90's they are slightly oversize, not a problem as long as you plan to keep using them, if not then your US made primers will be a loose fit after that.
