Has anyone seen one of these, I just bought one with a 28 inch barrel. Shoots great and has a cross bolt that locks down the barrels.

Knew a guy that shot one...I got to try it, and was hooked on hammers  :)
I hunted high and low...saw one on GunBroker but It was sold (auction ended with a Buyer )
Tried to buy Dave's (the Guy above) he'd have none of it...though he no longer shoots (least ways I never see him anymore)

THEN.... I found my TTn  ;D
but it was the Rossi that hooked me on hammered doubles.

I got hooked on Hammers about a year ago and bought a Remmy/Bakil USA/Russian hammered coach gun but couldn't hit the targets very well. Can't miss with the Rossi although the length is 8 inches more than the coach-gun.

at the time... I tried the Rossi...I was using a Stoeger CG...I also had ol Cresent SXS & a borrowed a Fox
All box locks...
I had tried to get my Dads vintage 1910 Ithica SXS from my Cousin, he borrowed it 35+ years ago  ::)
When Dad passed I never saw it again  :'(

I bought the TTn sight unseen 3 years ago , just the TTn website photo and kudo's from a shooter to guide me....
I sold the Stoeger, and had long before returned the Fox. I've since given the Cresent to pard.

Hammers fit my persona and pair up with my conversions...If I ever run across a Rossi I'd spring for just to have one.
Meanwhile the TTn will always be a keeper.

I'm on my third Rossi coachgun, not by choice the other two a 12 gauge and a 20 gauge got took along with all our other shooting irons during a break in just before I retired from the Navy in San Diego and moved back here 12 years ago.
It's taken me up until this past fall to come up with this one. It's a 12 gauge and an olser version than the ones we had.
If you can find one you can't do much better IMHO.
I saw a couple over on Auction Arms or Gun Broker a couple of weeks ago and they come up on SASS net every now and again. Good luck.
I also have a Tula SXS hammered 12 gauge with 28" barrels. It's nice but I like the Rossi's much better. The Tula has pretty stiff hammer springs.

4 I'd Floyd;    I oppose the notion that short shotguns are best for CAS.  My experience is the opposite.  My full choke 97's are deadly, and have given me my best match results ever.

With short guns, it is not just the loose chokes.  As shotguns are "pointed", any aiming or holding error is minimized with a longer sight plane.  I have noticed myself, in the heat of battle, shouldering the butt too low.  That has the effect of raising the muzzle too much and a miss over the top of the target.

My match shotgun now is an older 12 ga. Tula Baikal TOZ66 hammer gun, WITH 28" BARRELS.  It is not pretty.  It does require some energy to work, but work it does.  It shucks any Remington or RP shell quite easily.  I have hit 23 trap birds with it, and rarely miss a CAS target.

Sir Charles;
That's the same model Tula I have. They are nice shoguns.
I bought another Rossi because I didn't want to cut the barrels on the Tula.
I also like the Rossi as well it's just according to what I'm doing that day as to which I use. Shooting CAS or re-enactments. Usually during re-enactments they both are put into service one as a loaner.
You couldn't go wrong with either. I also believe the longer barrels were more common in the day.
There was a Tula Toz 66 on Guns America with 20" barrels a month or so ago.

Yup, I have a Rossi 20 ga. SXS. Great gun. and tons of fun to shoot...Mine has a couple of spots on the barrel that are missing the bluing (I bought it like that), and other than that, it is pretty clean....Are they really that hard to find? I have been to a couple of gun stores in the area and they are giving me the offers of $150....I have seen them on the internet for $500 (not that mine is worth that), but for those who know, what would be a respectable offer on this gun in 80-85% condition (because of the spots on one barrel missing a little blueing)
Also, is anyone here in the Prescott, AZ area?

Kenebec Bill

The Rossi is a great shotgun IMHO.  I have had my Rossi Coach Gun for better than 10 years and I love it.  Many offers to relieve me of it.

I have one of the Rossi SXS Hammered I got from a friend several years ago.  Shoot nothing but BP in it with 2-7/8 brass shells.  Sure puts out a lot of smoke.  Never had a problem with and I shoot it as often as I can at our local SASS matches.  That is all we have down here is South Florida.  I wouldn't trade it for anything else.  I have looked at the TTN but still like my Rossi

I've been shooting a Rossi hammered 12 GA for at least 8 years now, and love it ....   ;D

Matter of fact, a couple of years ago I got a chance to buy a second one at a reasonable price, and snapped it up as a backup ....   :D

However, a pard's Rossi developed a problem which caused him to retire his, at least until he could get the problem fixed, so I lent him my spare.  That turned into a "sale" to him because he was unable to locate the necessary parts to fix the problem on his other one ......   ::)

Which prompts me to ask - are parts for Rossi's available?  (His problem - the only one I have ever heard anyone having with a Rossi, in fact - is that one of the firing pin bushings in the breechface is cracked ....)

Jack, Terry Lane asked me to answer this for you, sort of.  He had the same problem with his and our local CAS gunsmith was able to get him one.  As of almost 5 pm CDT Joel has not answered back, but we'll let you know when he does.

Howdy Jack and all. My local gunrunner/gunfixer says he ordered the bushing from M&M Gunsmithing in Virginia. You'll need to do a search for the website. He says they used to stock parts for Rossi. Hope that helps. Take care.

A friend of mine ran into some hardluck, with a worthlesss woman, and I ended up with all of his guns. One was a TOZ coach gun. It is in 12 guage SXS, with 20" barrels and side hammers.

This shotgun is unfired... The best description I can give, is that the TOZ is Russian utiitarian, in appearance, and has hammer springs from hell... I have never seen, or felt, such heavy hammer springs in my life.

I have an unsolicited offer of $300.00 for this Coach gun from a Cowboy shooter... I just may let it go, if that is a good price for me...

CZ just brought out a 12 guage. SXS coach gun. It is a reproduction of the 1878 Colt Coach gun, with exposed, working hammers, and I bought one. This is a nice shotgun. Apparently the parts are made in Turkey, and finished in CZ land.

It has one of the nicest blueing jobs I have ever seen on any gun, and I have seen a bunch of guns.
