A recommendation for those ordering Colts...   In the future you might want to order them through Sixgun Shorty.  Scott rides herd on 'em and can tell you what's happening at any point in the process.  He will also nag them for you.  No extra charge  ;D

myself being a newcomer to the sport and die-hard American-made fan.  I gotta admit, the big three in the auto industry and the "big three" in firearms I like to think of: Colt, Remington, and Smith & Wesson are shooting themselves in the feet!  Most don't believe in loyalty anymore, most only care about the price and reliability.  Not if American workers made that product.  Whether it's a rubber-maid car or a revolver.

I mean for crikes sake, the US Military used the 1911 for how long?  I love that gun, it saved my behind a couple times, on sheer intimidation factor alone!  Now, the Baretta, which isn't bad, but not great either in 9mm NATO round.  Guess what?  all my friends in the Marines, Army, and Coast Guard... if they can, they are going back home grabbing their own Colts and using them!

It's all a matter of price now... and I gotta admit, I really like those Smoke Wagons and Cimarrons, especially when Henry, Winchester, and let alone Colt don't make 'em like they used to and still charge a whopping 3x price tag!

It is sad, that Italian and Spanish manufactures have to make replicas of the great American firearms, and I'm not bashing, those are great weapons... it's just Winchester, Henry and Colt are still around... and they don't seem to care.

Ruger that good huh?  I was looking between them and USFA, I can't buy a "replica" not made in Good ol' US of A.  I just want a nice set of SAA Peacemakers (blued and case-hardened), shorties (gunslinger look), and hopefully a Buntline, cuz let's face it, I grew up on Tombstone. heheeh

In the rifle catagory I am a Marlin fan.  Also made in the US of A and affordable.  1895 in .357 for cowboy fun and a 336 for serious business.  The Leverevolution rounds let it shoot like a .308 in lever action.
Ruger has kept there prices competative and though not "original" they are a huge success in cowboy shooting.  I like the old models, but the new ones are extremely popular with the public.

Nice!  I'm totally a n00b at this so I didn't know Marlin was USA.  Sweet, now I have a rifle too.
Basically I want to be as accurate as possible to the original, while not breaking the bank, and having them American Made, it's going to be hard, but I don't mind buying used if they've been cared for as I have a gunsmith friend and I'm taking classes... sort of... I actually would prefer used, since they have more character.  I dunno, seems more like the old ones.

Not ta highjack the thread, but here are my two Marlins and the Ruger OMV.  The rifle on the the right is the 336, not allowed in CAS because it doesn't fire a pistol round but I through it in there anyway.  The one on the left is the 1895 and very authentic.  Bought the rifles new and the revolver used, it was made in 1995.  I've never had trouble with any of them.

see, this is why I love forums.  I go on this topic thread to hear more about the whims and let downs of colt... and I find out USFA, Ruger, and Marlin are still at it going strong!
for the price I was willing to pay for a nice lever-action, I can now get the Marlin at a wonderful price and my choice of the two best US made Colt Peacemakers out there today!  Now I just need to decide... gunslinger with nickle or the blued look?

A few thoughts on the responses to this thread.  I too, prefer American made products.  I own 4 Ruger Vaqueros in caliber 45 Colt.  They are all old models.  They all shoot just fine.  Three are SS finish, one is blue/cc finish.  They are the ones I shoot most.  I bought the Cimmeron 38-40 to mate up with AWA Regulator of similar barrel length and caliber.  I've been trying for over a year to put together a set of Cowboy guns in 38-40.  I already have a set of cowboy guns in caliber 44-40 and a whole bunch of cowboy guns in 45 Colt.  My lever guns are - one Winchester, one Uberti and one Rossi.  All are well made, good shooters.  I fired a Marlin once and I liked it.  I will probably own one some day.
As to finish...  the SS is easier to clean and certainly resists rust better but there is something about nice case color and blue that warms the heart and I own more of those than the stainless.

Got agree with ya on the blue Danny.  The combonation of a blue barrel an a patinaed <sp?> frame definately warms this shooter's cockles.
Have ya shot the Model P yet?

Leo...  I did finally get to the indoor range to test out the new Cimmeron Model P.  I took the old AWA Regulator along too so I could compare them side by side.  Having had an action job done on the AWA before I owned it made it easier to shoot and it was a little more accurate than the Cimmeron Model P.  I, personally do not believe in action jobs on guns.  I know some people can't live without them but I always went with Dad's advice...  "If it works, don't fix it"!  I'm sure with time and use the Model P will smooth out just fine.  The Regulator has always printed groups under 4 inches at 20 yards with any ammo.  The Model P prints around 5 inch groups at the same distance with Winchester cowboy loads and around 6 inch groups with UltraMax ammo.

I'm thinking about writing up a review of these 38-40's for the  Cowboy Chronicle in the near future.

To update the SASS Colt - I'm expecting it any day now.  I just got the "Silver King" gun rig from Kirkpatrick Leather for the Colt.  Expensive... yes, but I figure a $2500 gun should be carried in a $500 holster.  This will be the first real "Bar-B-Q gun" I've ever owned.    ::)

That will be great.  Looking forward to that review and also the SASS Colt you have coming in. How do you write a review for the Cowboy Chronicle?

I'll go with yer Dad Danny.  I understand folks wantin ta get the most out of their piece, but I like ta work em in naturaly.  My 1851 was stiff as a board when I got it, but after each shooting and cleaning it got better.  I don't need anyone tinkering with it now, it's smooth as can be just like the OMV and it was made in 1967.
