Skinny Preacher 66418

I had a little spur or a while. Had the same rough rifling. I got very inconsistent accuracy with it.

I might get another with steel frame, but what I really want is one like Preacher in Pale Rider had tucked in his belt. It had a trigger guard. I'm guessing it was .36 cal since the frame was bigger.

Smoke em if ya got em.

Dick, did you ever get your .31 to shoot decent.I am trying somethings with mine and am having fun doing it.

I hate it when life gets in the way of goodtimes.      Been to long away from the forum and the guns.

By the way I sent you an email

There's a problem with the barrels on the lil spur trigger Remingtons.  They tend to be a mite on the rough side, but believe it or not, I've been able to get respectable groups from mine.  I got the Kirst Konverter .32 S&W cylinder fitted properly and some springs changed so I could haul the hammer back and a taller front sight installed.  The barrel doesn't lead up and accuracy holds up well after 25 shots.  So, I think it's the right bullet.

I've loaded FFFg 777 and it's ok.  I prefer FFFFg Black Powder.  I have a couple of cans from my flintlock days and now I have a new use for it.

This bullet performs well in .32 Mag with Holy Black also.

I used 777 in my 1849 pocket without any problems. Those little pocket guns are fun!  I have a CCW permit  and usually carry my S&W M&P, but I have carried the '49, it conceals well. I just reduce the recommended powder charge by 15%.

DD,  I'll be giving the 4F a try.I think my 32HR MAG needs to try some of those bullets.

Accuracy is pretty good from my Pietta .31 Rem. It's a brass frame.
Though I saved the targets, but alas no. Offhand groups were running aroud 3 inches fired at 7 yds.
I've slugged the bore and found it to be about .323 acroos the grooves. The chambers only run about .320, this doesn't help accuracy. As far as smokeless loads througha conversion. I doubt there is any published load data for the .32 SW cartridge that would cause a failure of the frame / barrel. Pressure is contained by the cylinder. Pressure intot he barrel drops off quickly.

Unfortunately I don't have a lot of interest in the .32 SW cartridge, and even less interest in smokeless loads (or subs) for weapons from the blackpowder era.

DD, I pulled out my little steel frame 31 and checked the barrel after reading your post. The grooves towards the end of the bbl are a mite rough. Looks like chirpping marks. The lands appear to be somewhat smooth thou. Guess I got luckey. I've had mine for about 7 years now and have never fired it. I don't think the loading ram on mine will seat a ball as it has limited travel. The hammer spring tension is a bear. When first bought I had to send it back for replacement as it would not cock. A fun looking little gun and I know that I should shoot it. I don't own any safe Queens. DD, also I talked to Cap and his daughter is back at the Mayo Clinic. He said that all this will put gun delivery back. I hope she gets better as I know she has been through alot with her health. I had some cowboys tell me that BP shotshells will not work in the 87. I told them that Cap fixes them to work. Some people spread rumors without trying to verify what they are saying.

I need to beg indulgence here.  If this is the wrong place I may move this post to a new thread.

I have a .31 Rem spur trigger pocket pistol with a rough barrel.  The gun came that way out of the box new.  It shoots ok and doesn't lead the bore, but I'd sure like it to have a smoother bore.  So, would this gun be a candidate for a set of those barrel lapping bullets?  Even if I had to run 'em with heathen fad smokeyless to shoot the abrasive bullets, I'd suck it up and do it.  So, anybody have experience with this kind of treatment?

Don't think I'd try the lapping bullets (by shooting). The velocity isn't high enough to do the trick.
Now, the old method of lapping the bore with a cast plug and some abrasive paste may work.

First thing I do is slug the bore, then the chamber. You may find the chambers to be a mite on the small side anyway.
These little guns shoot ok for what they are, but making them "right" can be a real stretch.

Most bullet lapping kits are used at a  very low loading. I've used David Tubbs on a 300mag. Also talked to Veral Smith at LBT and bought some of his lapping compound. Again he advised starting loads. Beartooth Bullets book on the subject states that you should be able to see the bullet in flight. That's not hyper-velocity by any means. DD, if you need any info on this I'll help. I've done 3 guns and like the results.

Checked the bore on my baby remmie.........slugs out at .323 and cylinder is at .313.......I can picture in my little brain ,a small sphere buncing off the walls of a large tube. The worst part is that the people who build these things can accept such #%&$ poor matching of component parts and that a company like Cabela's would even sell it.........If it wasn't so cute, I'd have to put it out of my misery. ;D ;D ;D

Howdy Major and all,

There is some light at the end of the tunnel.  Walt Kirst may well bring out the little .32S&W Five shot cylinder for the .31 spur trigger Remingtons.  He feels that of late the folks at Pietta and Uberti have both tightened up QC.  If that's the case, Walt has all the drawings and tooling done.  I'll try to keep you all up to date as things move forward.

Also, I got a bunny with my lil belly gun.  Took him at 15 paces.  He went good in a stew.  So, even this little gun has practical use. . .
