I'm getting an 1874 this year in 45-70 and hear how hard it is to find the right load for you bpcr and what a trying process it can be. I'm not a caster but if I used a 405gr .458 soft cast spg lubed non paper patched bullet from baffalo arms and a case full of powder with good crimp, what kind of accuracy could I expect from a stock pedersoli? I wouldnt shoot past 200 yards. Thanks

Probably not to good, would likely encounter alot of leading. Those Pedersolis need a .459 or better yet .460 bullet to get the best in accuracy.
You'll want to include a .030 fiber wad between the powder and bullet, and don't use any crimp , especially with a soft bullet.
the folks at www.montanabulletworks.com sell a good variety of bullets that'll get you decent accuracy.

glad to be of some help ;D

68 grs of Goex cartridge powder with most any 500-535 gr bullet should do well all the way to 1000yds.
Up it to 70 grs with a .060 fiber wad for bullets 405 and under to get decent results out to 5-600

I have a Pedersoli .45-70 and when I was shooting it, I used grease groove bullets (.459) and 65 grains 2f Goex and would consistently get a 4 inch or so group at 100 yards even with that Lawrence sight, don't panic I can't hit a school bus at 200 yards. So my impression is that  your gun will shoot as good if not better than you. The .45-70 is a very forgiving cartridge to load, you really have to work to screw it up. You will have a great time.

I have a Pedersoli, and I've shoot 500-528 gr. bullets and .458 with SPG. with no trouble.
