Has anyone tried the Dixie Spencer Rear Sight to determine if it offers improvement to the Armisports rear sight?

Grouchy Spike,

First of all, you may want to check out this link on Spencer Rear Sights:

Hopefully, a member of SSS will respond to your initial question as posted.

And thanks for the comments via your personal message.  They are much appreciated.

I had a gunsmith open up the Armisport OEM rear sight with the thinnest Dremel blade made in China. Then, by a stroke of luck, the slide fell off sometime and it made a far better sight picture!! The slide is worthless IMO anyway. I don't plan on shooting Creedmoor with it.  ;)

I agree, long range mine ain't!  At least with my loads (9.0 gr Trailboss with 350 gr lead bullets).

I'll stop complaining about the rear sight and live with it.

I'm wondering why I have this rifle.

Grouchy Spike,

Wow, shame on you for such blaspheme ??? ???  But, I forgive you ::) ::) ::) ::)

You own a Spencer because it is a representative of one of the GREAT FIREARMS used during the Civil War.  From what I have read, it was never really intended for long distance shooting; it was more of an "shock and awe" kind of weapon and in that capacity was very successful when used that way by the Union cavalry.
